A Democrat’s Thoughts on the Roaring Economy: “Blah Blah Blah”
It’s not clear what is considered an important priority in the mind of Rep. Gwen Moore (D-WI), but the economic health of the United States of America is clearly not at the top of the list. Or perhaps Moore is just too partisan to admit that under the Trump administration, things have not looked this good for America’s economy in a very long time. Either way, the House Ways and Means Committee member drew the wrong sort of attention on Wednesday when she dismissed the many financial achievements of the country as utterly beneath her ability to care.
“GDP is great, unemployment is at an all-time low, African-Americans are doing well, Hispanics are doing well, wages are rising at the fastest pace in ten years — blah, blah, blah,” Moore said at a hearing.
It didn’t take long for House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy to take advantage of Moore’s apathy, tweeting out a video of her remarks with the comment: “From the party that claims to be #ForThePeople.”
Moore responded, telling McCarthy that she wasn’t going to be fooled by the “tax scam” passed by the Republicans last year.
“Any benefit of the #goptaxscam is put on the national credit card,” Moore wrote. “The middle class knows they’re going to be the ones who are forced to pay it back. Meanwhile, Democrats grew the economy, shrunk the deficit, & gave everyone healthcare. Thanks, Obama!”
Wow, just when you thought Moore couldn’t improve on the idiocy of her initial statement, she goes and outdoes herself on Twitter. Seriously, who is voting for these people? Obama grew the economy? That’s really what you’re going to call that anemic recovery, which did not actually get out of the gates until Republicans took control of the House? Democrats shrunk the deficit? Tell that to our national debt, which ballooned year over year during the Obama years. Democrats gave everyone healthcare? Then why do we continue to hear 2020 presidential candidates running on a platform of universal healthcare? So strange.
Among the many people who found Moore’s remarks unpalatable was the president’s son.
“If over his entire presidency Obama had accomplished 10% of what @realDonaldTrump for these groups the left would anoint him emperor for life,” tweeted Donald Trump Jr. “When Trump does it in less than 2 years it’s Blah Blah Blah. What a joke!”
