In a panel discussion on ABC’s “This Week” program, reporter Terry Moran warned that Democrats would face a “reckoning” if Special Counsel Robert Mueller does not prove collusion in his final report from the investigation. Moran said that not only would the Democratic Party face serious questions about the allegations they have baselessly thrown at the Trump campaign and the president for two years, but that the media would also have to pay the piper.
“How big a deal is it if they don’t find collusion for the president?” asked host Martha Raddatz.
“Huge,” said Moran. “He’s cleared.”
Moran went on to say: “The central and most serious question in this investigation, the reason Robert Mueller started it: Did the current president of the United States assist the Kremlin in an attack on our democracy? And if Mueller, after two years, comes back and says, ‘I don’t have the evidence to support that charge,’ that’s a reckoning. That’s a reckoning for progressives and Democrats who hoped that Mueller would essentially erase the 2016 election. It’s a reckoning for the media. It’s a reckoning across the country if in fact after all this time there was no collusion.”
This is little more than common sense, but it still startled us to hear it from a bigtime representative of the mainstream media. Most of what we’ve seen from the Trump-hating press in recent weeks has been this cynical, obvious effort to downplay expectations vis-à-vis the Mueller report. We’ve read at least two or three opinion/news pieces that “explain” to us how, well, there’s really not going to be any smoking gun and how collusion isn’t really possible to prove, and you know, we already have plenty of evidence right out in the open to recommend impeachment. This is the kind of tripe you write when you have a bad feeling about what’s coming down the pike.
So we commend Moran for being a little more realistic about it. He knows that no amount of media propaganda or Democrat Party twisting and squirming is going to change the fact that the American people were promised collusion and they expect collusion. If it’s anything less – if it’s some kind of namby-pamby junk about obstruction, for instance – Moran is absolutely right: There will be a reckoning. The media, the Democrats, and all the liberal pundits are going to have to explain why they spent the last two years throwing unsubstantiated charges of TREASON at the president.
It’s going to be fun to watch.
