AG Barr: Democrats Want to Commit Us “To a Socialist Path”
In a particularly sharp interview with the Chicago Tribune on Monday, Attorney General William Barr waded deep into the political realm, accusing Democrats of trying to stir unrest in America with their unfounded accusations that Trump would try to remain president even if he loses to Joe Biden in November.
“You know liberals project,” Barr said. “You know the president is going to stay in office and seize power and all that s—? I’ve never heard of that crap. I mean, I’m the attorney general. I would think I would have heard about it.”
Barr told the Tribune that Democrats are essentially threatening to burn the country down if they don’t get what they want out of this election.
“Increasingly, the message of the Democrats appears to be ‘Biden or no peace’,” he said.
Barr said that while he feels reluctant to wade too deeply into the political machinations of everyday American life, he couldn’t help but feel that we’re on the precipice of the “most significant election of a lifetime,” a view he shares with both the president and his Democratic challenger.
“As an attorney general, I’m not supposed to get into politics,” Barr said. “But…I think we are getting into a position where we’re going to find ourselves irrevocably committed to a socialist path. And I think if Trump loses this election — that will be the case.”
The attorney general also said he is concerned about the security of our upcoming election, given that so much of it will take place via the mail. He said that we are setting up a scenario in which a postal worker could be paid off to buy blank ballots distributed for elections and either withhold them or deliver them to a clearing house where they could be filled out according to the wishes of a partisan activist.
“Just think about the way we vote now,” Barr said. “You have a precinct, your name is on a list, you go in and say who you are, you go behind a curtain, no one is allowed to go in there to influence you, and no one can tell how you voted. All of that is gone with mail-in voting.
“There’s no more secret vote with mail-in vote,” he continued. “A secret vote prevents selling and buying votes. So now we’re back in the business of selling and buying votes. And the capricious distribution of ballots means harvesting, undue influence, outright coercion, paying off a postman, here’s a few hundred dollars, give me some of your ballots.”
The coronavirus has upset the nation’s apple cart in more ways than one in 2020. This is a dismal fact of life for most Americans.
For Democrats, however, it may be just the opportunity they’ve been looking for ever since Trump assumed office.
