It used to be that teachers knew enough to avoid ongoing, controversial current events when it came to teaching children about social studies. It’s far too easy to let your own personal biases slip into the lesson when you tackle news stories that are not only still in progress but are also flashpoint issues difficult even for adults to fully understand.
That’s apparently not the case anymore. An Alabama sixth-grade teacher thought it would be a fine idea to not only teach her students about the Michael Brown situation in Ferguson, Missouri, but that it would also be instructive to have her students act out the shooting in class. Naturally, she called on her white students to play the part of the cops.
For her startling lack of judgment, for which any reasonable person would recommend immediate dismissal, the teacher has been put on paid administrative leave by the Dallas County school board. While this action does not preclude the possibility of her being fired after a more thorough investigation, it does leave the door open for her return once this story dies down in the press. Clearly, a woman with such a miniscule amount of common sense doesn’t belong anywhere near a sixth grade classroom.
What’s even more ridiculous about the story is that it occurred in the same week that a South Carolina student was suspended and arrested for writing a fictional story that involved him shooting a dinosaur. On one hand, we have school officials so taken with the concept of “zero tolerance” that they leave common sense at the door when deciding punishments for students who mention the word “gun” in class. On the other, we have a teacher who thinks her classroom is the appropriate place for shooting skits, indoctrinating her students on what she believes happened in Ferguson on August 9th. Information she, like the rest of the world, simply doesn’t have.
While this individual Dallas County schoolteacher doesn’t represent the federal government at large, her misstep is only a drop in the bucket when it comes to how children are being brainwashed in the 21st century. Liberal madness is changing the public school system in fundamental ways that we may never be able to recover from. Already, we have generations of children graduating from a system that they’ll always see as “the way it was when I was growing up,” which is one of the most powerful forces that can entrench itself in the human mind. These kids will never be able to look back and see the kind of harm being done to the country by the very lessons they were taught. They’ll never be able to look back and see the greatness of the founding fathers, the bravery of the early pilgrims, or the rock-solid conservative principles on which the country was formed.
It’s a scary time to be an American, in many ways. The sooner we can work towards eliminating the public school system altogether, the sooner we’ll be able to save this country from the government-sponsored brainwashing that will ruin it forever. With teachers like this one out there, I only hope that it isn’t already too late.
