AOC Says Democrats are a “Center or Center-Conservative Party”
Continuing her long war against moderate Democrats and her even more intense war against common sense, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) said Monday that there really is no such thing as a left-wing political party in the United States.
Speaking at an MLK Day event, the young socialist continued on a theme that has dominated her freshman year in Congress: Democrats just aren’t far enough to the left to suit her radical ambitions.
“We don’t have a left party in the United States. The Democratic Party is not a left party,” she said. “The Democratic Party is a center or a center-conservative party. We can’t even get a floor vote on Medicare-for-all — not even a floor vote that gets voted down. We can’t even get a vote on it. So this is not a left party. There are left members inside the Democratic Party that are working to try to make that shift happen.”
Not content with throwing bombs at her own party, AOC soon turned her attention to the peaceful gun-rights rally in Richmond, Virginia. Did she want to make a statement against the Second Amendment? Oh no, you underestimate Ocasio-Cortez’s commitment to making sure everything out of her mouth is as divisive and racially-tinged as possible. She’ll leave the gun control nuttery to her “conservative” friends in the Democratic Party. AOC was more interested in how kindly the protesters were treated.
“There’s this gun rights protest that’s going on in Richmond … on MLK Day, but here’s the image that has stuck with me the most about that,” she said. “When we go out and march for the dignity and the recognition of the lives of people like Freddie Gray and Eric Garner, the whole place is surrounded by police in riot gear without a gun in sight. And here are all of these people flying Confederate flags with semiautomatic weapons and there’s almost no police officers at that protest. So who or what are our institutions protecting from who? And that image conveys it all, conveys it all.”
Uh-huh.
Now, this statement really stands as an illustration of how absolutely ridiculous this woman is. Because despite all of the inane warnings coming from the media and the Democrats in Virginia, the rally in Richmond went off without a hitch. There wasn’t one aberrant moment of violence. It was as peaceful and patriotic a demonstration as you could imagine. Does Ocasio-Cortez really want to compare the situation in Richmond on Monday with the chaos that unfolded in Ferguson or Baltimore?
But for a woman who looks at the modern-day Democratic Party and sees a “conservative-center” arrangement, you can’t expect her to trifle with little inconveniences like reality. When you travel the world in shoes, your feet will never touch foreign soil. And when you wear Oppression Glasses at all times, that’s all you’ll ever see.
