Assange: Any Teen Hacker Could Have Gotten Democrat Emails
WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange told Fox News host Sean Hannity this week that his site did not get their trove of Democrat-penned emails from Russian authorities. In an interview that aired Tuesday, Assange said Democrats were so careless with their cybersecurity that any halfway competent teen hacker could have gotten into their emails.
“We published several emails which show Podesta responding to a phishing email,” Assange said. “Podesta gave out that his password was the word ‘password’. His own staff said this email that you’ve received, this is totally legitimate. So a 14-year-old kid could have hacked Podesta that way.”
Podesta’s password was “password”? Seriously? That actually explains a lot. If this is the kind of genius intellect that was behind the Hillary Clinton campaign, it’s a wonder she didn’t lose even more badly than she did. The re-animated corpse of Abraham Lincoln couldn’t win an election with these idiots in charge.
Assange said it was a mistake for Democrats to spend all of their time attacking WikiLeaks and Vladimir Putin while ignoring the content of the emails.
“It’s the same reason why they lost the election, which is instead of focusing on substance, they focused on other things like this attempt to say how outrageous it is that the American public received true information before an election,” Assange said. “The public doesn’t buy that. They want as much true information as possible.”
This is really the core of the problem. Whether or not Russia was behind the hacks, neither Podesta nor the DNC were able to seriously deny that the emails were genuine. So their messaging on Russia looked like a transparent attempt to draw attention away from the scandal.
On Wednesday morning, President-elect Donald Trump seized on the interview in a couple of early tweets.
“Julian Assange said ‘a 14 year old could have hacked Podesta’ – why was DNC so careless? Also said Russians did not give him the info!” Trump wrote.
In a follow-up, he wrote, “Somebody hacked the DNC but why did they not have ‘hacking defense’ like the RNC has and why have they not responded to the terrible things they did and said (like giving the questions to the debate to H). A total double standard! Media, as usual, gave them a pass.”
This has really been Trump’s point from the beginning. Okay, maybe Russia was behind the hacks. Fine. Bad Russia. Don’t do that!
But what did they really do? They released accurate information to the American public. As far as “swaying the election,” that was the extent of their interference. They didn’t hack the voting machines. They didn’t make up a bunch of false allegations. They simply released the truth.
At the end of the day, Democrats were undone by their own words and deeds.
What could be more democratic?
