Buttigieg Diagnoses the Problem: We Don’t Have ENOUGH Immigrants
At a campaign stop in Carson City, Nevada on Monday, Pete Buttigieg told the crowd that the real problem with America is not that we are being overrun with illegal aliens coming across the southern border. No, no, the problem is that our laws do not allow ENOUGH immigrants to come to our country.
“This county needs more people than its immigration system is willing to allow,” Buttigieg said. “So what happens? The people come, but then they are endangered of all of the uncertainties of being undocumented in this country.”
Buttigieg said that our current legal immigration system is based on an “outdated” model that we need to modernize through comprehensive reform. He told the audience that South Bend, Indiana – the town where he was mayor up until last month – could credit nearly all of its recent population growth to illegal immigration.
“That is almost entirely as a result of immigration,” he said. “And many of them are undocumented.”
Buttigieg said that it was a national shame to have so many illegal immigrants living under the fearful shadow of deportation.
“This is not something that is making America stronger right now,” he said. “We need real immigration reform. On day one, we go to the border and we start managing the border in a way that matches our values, as well as our laws. With humanity and compassion as well as security.”
If this mealy-mouthed rhetoric makes Buttigieg sound like a man without a plan, then that’s only because he doesn’t have a plan. Indeed, when the former mayor released his immigration policy proposals in December, that much was obvious. His “plans,” as they stand now, are to essentially put out the welcome mat for any immigrant who cares to come to this country, give them free healthcare, and put them on the government dole. Meanwhile, he intends to fast-track the 22 million illegal aliens already in the country towards amnesty and citizenship.
And THEN, he’s going to make it so easy to emigrate legally to the United States that illegal immigration becomes a thing of the past.
That’s like saying you’re going to cut crime by legalizing murder.
It’s hard to imagine anything this country needs less than a massive wave of unskilled workers and welfare-leeching layabouts from Mexico and Central America. Unfortunately, virtually every Democrat in the race is touting policies that would lead to this very result. It’s great news if you’re a business that relies on cheap labor, it’s great news if you’re a Guatemalan looking for work, and it’s great news if you’re a Democrat looking to expand the party’s voting base exponentially.
For everyone else? It’s pretty much the end of America as we know it.
