California is on its way to becoming a statewide sanctuary for illegal immigrants, thanks to a new bill quickly passing through the Democrat-controlled state legislature. On Monday, the state Senate passed a measure that will, if signed into law, prohibit every police department in California from fully cooperating with federal immigration officers.
Senate President Pro Tem Kevin de Leon, a staunchly pro-immigration Democrat, actually softened the bill before passing it on to the assembly. With his amendments, law enforcement officials will still be allowed to contact ICE before releasing violent felons and the law won’t take effect until next January.
“We will cooperate with our friends at the federal level with serious and violent felons. But we won’t cooperate or lift a finger or spend a single cent when we’re talking about separating children from their mothers, mothers from their children,” de Leon said. “That’s not who we are as a great state.”
The bill’s supporters believe that by cooperating with immigration agents and by making immigration-related arrests, local police will find it more difficult to maintain relations with the undocumented population.
“This is an acknowledgement of the cultural and economic contributions made to our great state by immigrants from all over the world,” de Leon said. “And it is a rejection of President Trump’s false and cynical portrayal of undocumented immigrants as a lawless community.”
Well, that’s not it. It’s not that undocumented immigrants are a lawless community, it’s that our COUNTRY has become a lawless community. We have given up trying to actually stop people from swarming across the border. We’ve given up trying to find them and deport them. And now we’re going way beyond that. In California and other sanctuary areas, they don’t even want to deport these people after they break the law! Many of these liberals don’t care if the immigrant in question is a rapist, a murderer, or a terrorist; somehow DEPORTATION is the greatest of all evils.
This is not OK, and it’s not just about California. California’s problem becomes Nevada’s. Texas’s. Oregon’s. Washington’s. California’s problem becomes the country’s problem, and if we don’t get ahead of this thing now, we’ll see state after state fall like so many dominoes.
No one is demanding the LAPD go around to every house and business, rounding up illegal immigrants. We’re talking about a little bit of cooperation. We’re all ultimately on the same team here, aren’t we?
