There’s a reason people sneer at the left’s policies and call them “regressive.” And you don’t often get a better reminder of that reason than this. At California State University Los Angeles, they’re taking students back to a simpler time: A time of racial segregation. Except for one twist: This time around, blacks are all for it!
Last year, when inane college protests were taking up valuable class time at universities around the country, the Black Student Union at CSLA made up a list of demands to protest the “microaggressions” they had to put up with just to go to school. One of those demands was for the university to set aside housing just for black students.
“This space would also serve as a safe space for Black CSLA students to congregate, connect, and learn from each other,” the group explained to school administrators.
Naturally, the school was only too happy to meet their demands. This fall, they unveiled the Halisi Scholars Black Living-Learning Community, a residential hall that “focuses on academic excellence and learning experiences that are inclusive and non-discriminatory,” according to The College Fix.
The new setting puts CSLA right next to California cousins like UC Davis and UC Berkeley, which have also created segregated housing for black students.
Legally, of course, the schools cannot prevent white students from using the “safe spaces,” but the message is clear enough. And, seeing how our laws have been twisted to suit even the most outrageous liberal demands in recent years, it wouldn’t be too surprising if they eventually legalized this sort of reverse-discrimination. After all, who’s it hurting? White people? Who the hell cares about them?
Slowly but surely, liberals are coming around to a very disturbing sort of cultural philosophy. For a long time, we were all in agreement: The racist actions of our ancestors were deplorable, and we should move as far away from that as possible: total equality under the law, combined with cultural colorblindness.
Unfortunately, liberals now see America’s racist past differently. It’s not so much that the slave owners and racists of yesteryear were wrong, it’s just that they were white! If we just take a few of those ideas and turn them around…why, that will solve everything!
It feels ridiculous to even offer an argument against this theory, because it seems like the kind of thing virtually anyone with a brain would instinctively reject.
But, then, maybe we’re giving our fellow countrymen too much credit.
