Clapper: “It’s a Good Thing” the FBI Had a Spy in the Trump Campaign
President Trump blasted the witch hunt against his campaign again on Saturday, writing on Twitter that the American people were staring at a scandal of epic historic proportions if it turns out that the Obama intelligence community infiltrated his inner circle during the 2016 election.
“If the FBI or DOJ was infiltrating a campaign for the benefit of another campaign, that is a really big deal,” he tweeted. “Only the release or review of documents that the House Intelligence Committee (also, Senate Judiciary) is asking for can give the conclusive answers. Drain the Swamp!”
The day before, Trump wrote, “Reports are there was indeed at least one FBI representative implanted, for political purposes, into my campaign for president. It took place very early on, and long before the phony Russia Hoax became a ‘hot’ Fake News story. If true – all time biggest political scandal!”
Trump’s tweets came on the heels of a pair of stories published by The New York Times and the Washington Post, both of which confirmed that the FBI had an informant in contact with the campaign in the early summer of 2016. While neither outlet exposed the name of the informant, subsequent reporting has outed him as Stefan Halper, a Cambridge professor with deep ties to the CIA and a former member of three previous presidential administrations.
These same outlets have excoriated President Trump for suggesting (without evidence, they say) that Obama placed a spy in his campaign. It’s actually baffling and bizarre to watch the media tapdance around this story, but we are reminded of last spring, when people like CNN’s Jim Acosta were blasting the White House for saying that Obama had “wiretapped” the Trump campaign…even after it came out that the Trump campaign was under surveillance. They are playing a game of semantics and then telling their viewers and readers that Trump is lying. Do they really think the American people are that stupid?
Well, frankly, at least some portion of the public IS that stupid, because you still see legions of what we like to call Mueller Muggles who think that the special counsel should bring down this president using any means necessary – constitutional or otherwise.
Those Muggles include former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, who told CNN that it was actually great news that the FBI had a mole in TrumpWorld. “That’s a good thing,” he said, “because the Russians posed a threat to the very basis of our political system.”
Yeah, trolling Facebook in an effort to turn people against Hillary Clinton was a HUGE threat to our democracy, Jim.
These people…
