Climate Deniers Not Normal, Says EPA Admin
Gina McCarthy, the administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, is done arguing with those who don’t believe in man-made global warming. As far as she is concerned, anyone who hasn’t been convinced by now is a lost cause. “I’ve batted my head against the wall too many times and if the science already hasn’t changed their mind, it never will,” she said Monday at the White House.
On a roll, McCarthy went one further, claiming that climate deniers would not have the ultimate say. “It is normal human beings,” she said, “that haven’t put their stake into politics above science. It’s normal human beings that want us to do the right thing, and we will if you help us.”
And just like that, McCarthy makes the bold claim that climate deniers (as the left calls them) are not “normal human beings.” They are agitators, willing to put the future of humanity in danger so they can achieve political goals.
What a joke.
In fairness, there is plenty of evidence that certain Republicans have a financial interest in challenging the science on global warming. That’s not a great thing, but what goes underreported is the other side of the story. There are just as many liberal Democrats who are just as scientifically illiterate. They aren’t pursuing climate change legislation because scientists say they must. They are pursuing it because it dovetails seamlessly with their political agenda.
A thought experiment, if you will indulge. Let’s say that a scientific study came out tomorrow that changed everything. Suddenly, 97 percent of climate researchers admit that they were wrong about what’s causing the planet to heat up. It’s not carbon emissions, after all. Instead, climate change is actually being caused by massive amounts of abortions. Some chemical they use in the process is exacerbating the greenhouse effect and the only way to stop it is to outlaw abortion.
What do you think the left’s reaction would be to that news? Would they embrace what needed to be done? Would we see Democrats fighting to overturn Roe v. Wade? Or do you think we might finally see some leftists begin to question the scientific consensus?
If saving the planet did not involve destroying the economy, Republicans would embrace the science in a heartbeat. It just seems awfully strange that the measures needed to combat climate change happen to be the very same measures that Democrats have been pursuing for decades. More government control. Higher taxes. Reduced wealth. More public transport. Less big industry.
The fight over climate is political. Sure it is. We can admit that. When will Democrats do us the same favor?
