Clinton’s Absurd Attacks on Voter ID
The Democratic Party has apparently decided that the “war on women” trope was so successful, they might as well declare the Republican Party guilty of a “war on blacks” while they’re at it. And the presidential frontrunner, Hillary Clinton, is all too aware that she needs to get African-American voters behind her if she’s going to win in the general election. While she’s virtually guaranteed to win the majority of the black vote like every other Democrat, the question is whether or not she can energize them like Obama.
To that end, she’s made the absurd issue of voting rights a central focus of her campaign. To the Democrats, this issue is a holdover from the early civil rights movement. Or, to hear Clinton tell it, a “blast from the Jim Crow past.”
That’s how she described it on Saturday in a speech from Hoover, Alabama. Speaking to the Alabama Democratic Conference’s Convention, Clinton slammed a recent state decision to close 31 driver’s license offices due to budgetary concerns. According to her, these closures will make it more difficult for people of color to vote.
“We have to defend the most fundamental right in our democracy, the right to vote,” Clinton said. “No one in this state, no one, should ever forget the history that enabled generations of people left out and left behind to finally be able to vote.”
Sigh.
The left’s narrative is that blacks find it more difficult to get state identification, thus making it impossible for them to vote in states that require ID at the polling station. This is their story and they’re sticking to it. They’ve yet to explain why it’s so damn hard for a black citizen to do what hundreds of millions of Americans do all the time, but that’s apparently not important. The important thing is that they get to stand in front of their microphones and cry racism.
“What part of democracy are these Republicans so afraid of?” Clinton asked. “For every Republican governor working to roll back voting rights, there are Americans determined to keep marching forward.”
Yeah, and for every American determined to turn our election system into a lawless free-for-all, there are people who would like to make sure we don’t descend into chaos. If you want to call basic voter fraud protections “racism,” well, that’s your business. But somehow it seems more racist to contend that black voters need special exceptions because they’re unable to meet even minimal demands.
What happens when Democrats get rid of any and all barriers to vote and still don’t get the turnout they want? Do we then make it mandatory to vote? Do we send government buses out to collect people on election day? Maybe Democrats can float the idea of voting assumptions. Then we can just get rid of elections altogether. Hmm, black man…33 years old…works in retail…yep, he’s a Hillary Clinton voter, mark the ballot.
Sounds crazy. Ludicrous. Outrageous.
In other words, the perfect Democratic party policy.
