Liberals would have the world believe that they are the true bastions for peace. Where there are anti-war demonstrations, there they’ll be found. When there is UFC barbarism to be decried, they’ll be the ones to decry it. And when a woman is the victim of violence, you’d better believe they’ll make their voices heard.
Except, maybe, if the woman in question is a well-known conservative. Then, maybe it’s not that bad. In fact, maybe it’s a little bit funny. After all, conservatives aren’t really human are they? And any woman who would betray her gender by calling herself a Republican…oh my, that woman probably deserves anything she gets.
Such is perhaps the mentality that led CNN anchor Carol Costello to take such joy in the recordings leaked from the Palin residence. News of a “brawl” at the Palins’ broke last month, but only now are we learning more about the details. Last week, Costello ran the audio on her show, calling it “quite possibly the best minute and a half of audio we’ve ever come across.” The audio in question features Sarah Palin’s daughter Bristol painfully telling the story of her assault. “Sit back and enjoy,” Costello said as she introduced the clip, grinning the entire time.
The audio is difficult to listen to even if you hate Bristol Palin for some irrational reason. If you have an ounce of humanity in you, it’s hard for me to see how you would find joy in the suffering of others. Even if Palin had been the victim of a justified attack, I’m not sure how you could enjoy it to the point where you would call it the “best audio we’ve ever come across.” That goes beyond lines of liberal/conservative and into sociopathy.
“Sit Back and Enjoy”
If what Bristol says on the tape is true – and liberals give all victimized women the benefit of the doubt, so I’m not sure why the same courtesy wouldn’t be extended here – then she was assaulted by a man after standing up for her sister. She was apparently also dragged by her feet and called unspeakable names. This harrowing incident is something to grin about? To introduce by saying, “sit back and enjoy?”
Costello has since been compelled to apologize for the disgraceful way she shared the audio, but her apology rings a little hollow. She didn’t simply make an offhand comment that could have been interpreted as bad taste. She took demonstrable glee in the misery of a woman who was assaulted by a man. Can you imagine the uproar if this situation had been reversed? Can you imagine if Fox’s Megyn Kelly had laughed at the video of Ray Rice punching his wife?
This is hardly a one-time incident. Consider the time Montel Williams asked Michelle Bachmann to kill herself. What about the time Ed Schultz pleaded with God to take Dick Cheney? Or how about the time a liberal radio host cried out, “I want motherf**king Joe the Plumber dead!”
Violence: it’s okay as long as the victim disagrees with your politics!
