Democrat Author: Lockdowns Turning America into a “Totalitarian State”
Former adviser to the Bill Clinton campaign and feminist author Naomi Wolf isn’t letting her allegiance to the Democratic Party cloud her judgement about the coronavirus pandemic and the associated abuses of power we’ve seen from lockdown-happy politicians. In a conversation with Tucker Carlson on Fox News this week, Wolf said that pandemic lockdowns are turning America into a “totalitarian state.”
Wolf said that President Biden’s economic shutdowns are forcing us into a “coup situation, a police state” under the “guise of a real medical pandemic.”
“That is not a partisan thing,” Wolf said. “That transcends everything that you and I might disagree or agree on. That should bring together left and right to protect our Constitution.”
Wolf is the author of a book which warns of ten steps that “would-be tyrants always take when they want to close down a democracy.” She warned that the U.S. is getting ready to enter into the final stages of that dark transformation.
“Whether they are on the left or the right, they do these same ten things,” Wolf explained, “and now we’re at something I never thought I would see in my lifetime. It is step 10 and that is the suspension of the rule of law and that is when you start to be a police state, and we’re here. There is no way around it.”
In the interview, Wolf said that she’s talked with Americans all over the country – both Democrats and Republicans – who are watching in “shock and horror as autocratic tyrants at the state and now the national level are creating this kind of merger of corporate power and government power, which is really characteristic of totalism fascism in the ’20’s. They are using that to engage in emergency orders that simply strip us of our rights; rights to property, rights to assembly, rights to worship, all the rights the Constitution guarantees.”
Wolf concluded her segment with a fervent wish that the country would quickly come to grips with what is happening.
“I really hope we wake up quickly,” she said, “because history also shows that it’s a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.”
Given the overwhelming military might of the U.S. government, it’s hard to imagine that we weren’t already at that point years ago. And now that both the legacy media and Big Tech are involved in shutting down views that don’t align with their interests, even talking about the problems facing our country will soon become difficult. We’d like to dismiss Wolf’s warnings as exaggerations – she’s certainly been wrong before – but every day we see things that make it a little harder to do so.
