Say, do you happen to remember back during the 2016 election when Donald Trump suggested, after saying there was nothing Americans could do if Hillary got elected and started stuffing the Supreme Court with liberal appointees, that, oh well on second though, maybe “the Second Amendment people” could do something about it? The media went into an absolute frenzy, accusing Trump of insinuating that the final chance to stop Clinton’s agenda would be assassination. Whether this was intended as a joke on Trump’s part or was merely a poor choice of words was never clear.
Not nearly as clear, for example, as what Rep. Tom Suozzi (D-NY) said on March 12 in a Q&A session with voters on Long Island. It was there that Suozzi, explaining what would happen if President Trump did not follow his interpretation of the law, said something that was in no way, shape, or form meant as a joke.
“I mean, this is where the Second Amendment comes in quite frankly, because what if the president was to ignore the courts?” Suozzi asked. “What would you do? What would we do? It’s really a matter of putting public pressure on the president.”
Perhaps disturbed by these comments, a member of the audience asked Suozzi to elaborate on his understanding of the amendment. Perhaps they were going to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that he was mixing up the Bill of Rights. Oh, oh, he just meant freedom of speech. Surely.
But nope, Suozzi assured the constituents that he was well aware of what the Second Amendment said.
“The Second Amendment is the right to bear arms,” he explained. “That’s why we have it.”
We thought all along that Democrats were unaware of the Second Amendment and its purpose, but look at that: When the subject in question is the assassination of a Republican president they despise and fear, they suddenly have a wonderful recollection of our nation’s founding document. Remarkable!
Oh, and please notice that this is not front page news at The New York Times, the Washington Post, or any other liberal rag. Please notice that a U.S. Congressman essentially calling for liberals to rise up with their guns and STOP President Trump is just a little side story, not worth much attention at all. Contrast that with that time that a congressman’s aide – not even a congressman, just his AIDE – said something snide about Malia Obama’s attire. THAT was a brief national controversy. This…oh, this is nothing.
It’s sick how the media covers for these clowns.
