Democrat Senator Claims Declaration of Independence Signed by “Immigrants”
Sen. Kamala Harris managed to have one of the dumbest, most transparently partisan tweets of the Fourth of July, and that’s really saying something when it comes to the Democrats and how they view America’s founding. Harris, a California Democrat who is positioning herself for a run at the White House in 2020, said that Americans should be aware that immigrants were among those who signed the Declaration of Independence.
“A reminder this Fourth of July,” she wrote in her most arrogant fashion. “It was eight immigrants who signed the Declaration of Independence. Happy Independence Day.”
Right.
So first of all, what need was there to use such a meaningless bit of trivia to politicize a holiday? If there is no other moment in the calendar year that we should be able to find common ground, can we not at least put the ridiculousness away for the Fourth? We’re all proud to be Americans, right?
Oh, how silly of us to think that Democrats give a damn about this nation’s founding, except as it stands as a way for them to tear down everything this country stands for. We must have been standing a little too close to the mortars the other day. Rattled our brains.
“In case you were wondering, the answer is yes,” wrote the Twitter watchdog website, Twitchy. “Kamala Harris doesn’t so much want to celebrate the Fourth of July as use it to try and score cheap political points.”
Not only that, but as far as cheap political points go…well, this was cheaper than most.
As a legion of writers and social media users pointed out, Harris’ tweet was factually lacking in a number of areas. For one, the wording of her post makes it sound as if there were ONLY eight signatories to the Declaration and that all of them were immigrants. That’s not true, there were 56. Eight of them were, indeed, born abroad in the United Kingdom, however. But that certainly is not comparable to the immigrants of today that Harris is referencing.
The British-born Americans who signed the Declaration did not, for example, break federal law to come to this country. They did not scale a wall. As is evident by the very nature of the document they were signing, American wasn’t even AN INDEPENDENT COUNTRY AT THE TIME! Like, how idiotic of an analogy can you make?
But then, this is a debate where liberals think references to Mary, Joseph, and Jesus make a slam-dunk point of some kind, so we suppose the ignorance runs deep.
