Democrat: We Might Keep Supreme Court Seat Open Until After 2020 Election
Of all the deranged Democrats trying to derail Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court confirmation hearings, Sen. Mazie Hirono might be the most deranged of them all. After telling the men of America to “shut up” with their pesky opinions about Kavanaugh’s sexual accusers and confirming to CNN’s Jake Tapper that she didn’t believe Kavanaugh because of his “judicial record,” Hirono said this week that she was perfectly fine keeping Anthony Kennedy’s seat vacant until after the 2020 elections.
“The world does not come to an end because we don’t approve all of the nominees,” Hirono said in an interview with Politico. “I think we’ve had those kind of vacancies before. We certainly had over a one-year vacancy with Merrick Garland.”
And just like that, the cat was out of the bag. This isn’t just a war for the #MeToo era on behalf of scorned women everywhere. This isn’t just a chance for Democrats to finally stick it to the man who defeated their precious Hillary in 2016. This is revenge, plain and simple. Revenge for Merrick Garland, President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee that Mitch McConnell chose to put on ice until after the election. So the next time you hear a Democrat talking about how unbelievable and astounding and reprehensible it is for Republicans to move forward on a Kavanaugh vote, keep these things in mind. This could literally be anyone sitting up there for confirmation, because it isn’t – and it never was – about Brett Kavanaugh.
It’s about Donald Trump and it’s about Mitch McConnell.
And for Mazie Hirono, it’s about living out some twisted, feminist fantasy where she gets to punish men for all the ills of the world.
The truth is that McConnell did play dirty politics in 2016 when he refused to hold hearings for Garland. We’ll just admit that up front. It was dirty and it was beautiful. Here’s why it’s different, though, from what Democrats are trying to do now.
For one thing, McConnell was taking an enormous risk. At the time he made that call, there seemed to be very little chance of Republicans winning back the White House. Trump was leading the primaries by huge margins and the conventional wisdom was that he had no shot of actually taking the nomination. And if he did? Well, nothing frightened the Republican Party more than seeing this billionaire show up in Cleveland to claim the throne. If McConnell punted on Garland, he was essentially giving Hillary Clinton the opportunity of choosing someone much more liberal to replace Antonin Scalia. The Democrats are taking no such risk. If they lose in 2020, they’ve got the same situation as they have now.
Second, Republicans didn’t go on a campaign to smear Garland up one side and down the other. Very few of them even took the standard, “He’s too liberal” line. They basically just said nothing other than, the voters deserve a say in this matter. We’re not going to pretend it wasn’t a calculated, political decision, but it didn’t involve trying to destroy a man’s life with false accusations, certainly.
Democrats have been complaining for two years that President Trump is ruining all of our precious “norms” of civility and protocol in politics. Meanwhile, they are engaged in one of the most disgusting schemes we’ve ever seen on Capitol Hill.
Those lefties sure do love their abortion rights.
