It has been obvious for a long time that Democrats in the House, Senate, and the Fourth Estate do not have the goods on President Trump that they want the American people to THINK they have. Oh, they run out to the cameras every time there’s a salacious dossier or a sensational tweet or an unconfirmed leak to the press, but they have yet to present one SHRED of evidence to support their ultimate claim. In fact, very few of them are even bold enough to come out and MAKE that claim: That Donald J. Trump colluded with a foreign country to hack the Democratic National Committee and throw our democracy into disarray. They hint at it, they talk around it, but they won’t come right out and say it.
And yet, here we are, summer is heating up, and there’s just no proof that there’s anything here other than wild speculation.
Have you noticed that every time – EVERY TIME – the media pushes some huge story that’s supposed to be “the beginning of the end” for President Trump, it winds up being nothing at all? The latest example, of course, is the Senate testimony of former FBI Director James Comey. The networks hyped this circus up like it was the second Super Bowl of the year. And we’ll grant them – it was quite interesting. It just wasn’t interesting in the way they wanted it to be.
Other than the griping we would expect from a guy who feels he was wrongfully fired, Comey added little new information to the record. None at all on the relevant matter, which is the Democrat-driven claim that President Trump obstructed justice by asking Comey to drop the Russian investigation.
In fact, Comey said – both in his notes and on Capitol Hill – that Trump actually asked him to FULLY investigate the charges made against his campaign. That he considered ordering him to directly investigate the allegations made in the dossier. That he would be extremely interested to know whether or not any of his “satellites” – think Carter Page – engaged inappropriately with any Russian interests.
This is not a president trying to hide from the FBI; this is a president who was quickly growing sick of the charade being played by the Democrats and who was hoping that the nation’s top law enforcement agent might be able to clear up some of the confusion. At the last, Trump apparently suspected that Comey was not only unwilling to do that, but was perhaps one of the architects of said confusion. And that was the last straw.
The Democrats have nothing. And they have turned what is ostensibly a very serious matter – the Russian interference in the campaign – into one long-running campaign commercial for 2018. They owe the American people an apology, and they ought to consider offering one to the president as well.
Not that anyone’s holding their breath.
