The election polls have been so kind to the Democrats in recent weeks that the talk of a mighty blue wave is back on. There has even been some quiet chatter about taking the Senate, a prospect that would have been unthinkable only a month or two ago. While anyone with a brain should have learned in 2016 to take poll results with a grain of salt, we will admit that things are looking grim for Republicans. Unless the pollsters were way off yet again, the Democrats may very well take back the House of Representatives and give us Speaker Pelosi for the next two years.
But there is one thing making the Democrats nervous: President Trump’s decision to de-classify and release a slew of documents from the FBI’s Russia investigation.
According to Politico, “Democratic operatives are growing anxious that Republicans working to undermine the FBI’s Russia probe are teeing up a series of document dumps meant to gin up GOP voters ahead of the midterm elections.”
You see, they put it that way so they don’t have to tell us the straight truth: Democrat operatives are scared to death that once Americans get a good hard look at the dirty tricks the Obama administration pulled to rescue Hillary Clinton and destroy Donald Trump, why, they’re going to be pretty pissed off!
To Democrats, the situation has eerie similarities to 2016, when WikiLeaks’ slow-drip daily release of internal Clinton campaign emails hobbled Hillary Clinton’s candidacy and offered regular fodder for Republicans.
“Oh, God,” said Jennifer Palmieri, former communications director for Clinton’s campaign. “Trump could be setting the stage for the same kind of manufactured October surprise designed to help boost his standing and undermine Mueller.”
It’s just so interesting that they would write it up this way. Say what you will about the WikiLeaks releases – unethical, unfair, what have you – they weren’t untrue. Literally no one from the DNC or the Clinton camp has ever had the gall to deny that those were real emails and real documents. So, call it a dirty campaign trick if you want, but the fact is that the American people knew more after the WikiLeaks event was over than they did before it started.
But the Democrats have become the enemies of transparency. They know that the more they keep voters in the dark about what’s going on, the better their chances of winning. That’s why they despise WikiLeaks, and frankly, it’s also why they despise Trump’s Twitter account. These are direct lines to the American people, unfiltered by the “gatekeepers” in the mainstream media who know just what to report (and what not to) so that the Democrats always come out smelling fresh as a daisy.
With this president, who doesn’t give a damn about precedents set by crooked politicians, the left is in danger of losing control of the narrative.
