Democrats Want Obama to Drop Gun Control
After getting trounced on gun control in the November midterms, Democrats are growing weary of President Obama’s position on the 2nd Amendment. No, they’re not going to suddenly turn into the defenders of freedom, but they see the writing on the wall. This is a fight they can’t win, at least not the way things are right now. Americans don’t want to be told that the Bill of Rights doesn’t really mean what it says.
In an interview last week with ABC, the president said that he wasn’t ready to give up. “What we’ve done is try to do as much administratively to tighten up how background checks are run, to go after illegal drug runners. But I tell you that trying to get something through Congress has proven to be very difficult. And it’s heartbreaking.”
This is what Obama considers heartbreaking. The fact that he has not been able to strike the 2nd Amendment out of the Constitution with a magic marker. The fact that Congress has stopped him from shattering his own oath of office. This is what keeps him up at night, scheming ways to steal rights away from the American people.
“Every time a Democrat starts talking about guns, they lose numbers,” Democrat strategist Dave Saunders told the Washington Times, “because it is the Second Amendment. There is just less talk [about guns] now than there has been in forever.”
For Obama, though, it’s not about the people. Numbers, schmumbers. It’s those evil lobbyists standing in his way. “The power of the NRA and the gun lobby in Congress is formidable,” he said. “And you know, we’re going to keep chipping away at this, but until you get intense public demands for this, it’s probably not going to happen because some special interests and lobbyists in Washington are really, really strong and their membership feels very intensely about the issue.”
Funny how it’s always “special interests” when they’re against him, but it’s the will of the people otherwise. Newsflash, Barack: the NRA’s membership is comprised of Americans. You don’t lose your citizenship when you make a donation to the “gun lobby.” Well, not yet, anyway.
Democrats are walking away from this issue on the public front, but they are no less determined to carry out their extreme and extraordinary measures behind the scenes. They’ve turned to things like Operation Choke Point, the New York SAFE Act, and blatantly anti-American rulings like those found on the D.C. City Council. Our only comfort is that these things will eventually wind up in front of the Supreme Court. And as long as that Court is not riddled with extreme liberals, the Second Amendment will prevail.
That’s just one more reason why it’s so important to elect a conservative president. Ruth Bader Ginsberg only has so much time left on the bench. We need to make sure she is replaced by someone with a much better sense of our founding document. It’s the last thing that stands between liberals and tyranny.
Well, the second to last thing.
