“Despicable!” Trey Gowdy Slams Nancy Pelosi for COVID Stimulus Remarks
On Friday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi lashed out at a CNN reporter for asking her about the strange optics of Democrats suddenly being willing to accept a much smaller coronavirus stimulus package than they were earlier in the year. The reporter asked Pelosi a reasonable question: Why are Democrats willing to compromise now when they weren’t before?
“Let me tell you something!” Pelosi snapped. “Don’t characterize what we did before as a mistake, as a preface to your question, if you want an answer. That was not a mistake! It was a decision, and it’s taking us to a place where we can do the right thing, without other, shall we say, considerations in the legislation that we don’t want.”
Pelosi went on to admit that the biggest difference between then and now is that Joe Biden has been elected president.
“That is a total game-charger: a new president and a vaccine,” Pelosi said. “It’s for a shorter period of time, but that’s OK now, because we have a new president.”
On Fox News, host Dana Perino asked former Rep. Trey Gowdy of South Carolina what he made of Pelosi’s comments.
“It’s okay now because there is a new president?” Perino asked.
“That’s one of the dumbest and also most despicable things I have ever heard an alleged leader say, that because Joe Biden won it’s okay to do it but if Donald Trump had won,” Gowdy said. “What’s missing is if Paul Ryan or John Boehner had said or done what she just said there would be media outcry. What other entity has commented on what the Speaker of the House just said? Because Biden won, we will do it. But while it was Trump, we weren’t going to give him a victory. It really is so outrageous. It’s hard to get me upset, but what she just said makes me madder than hell.”
Interestingly, Pelosi isn’t just facing criticism from the right.
In an interview with CNN on Monday, Sen. Bernie Sanders said he was perplexed as to why the House Speaker is suddenly willing to sign off on a much smaller bill.
“Here was a proposal much much larger, Democrats are, ‘no that’s not good enough,’ and now we’re prepared to accept a proposal that has I think $350 billion dollars in new money?” Sanders said. “I don’t think this is much of a compromise, I think the Republicans have probably gotten 90% of what they want.”
Yeah, but Biden won, and that’s all that matters, Bernie! Don’t you get it yet?
Say what you will about the socialist from Vermont, but at least the man believes in something. That’s more than anyone can say about Nasty Nancy.
