DHS Backs Up Trump: Criminals, Gang Members Embedded in Caravan
The media has been working overtime for the past 48 hours to tell the country that President Trump is lying when he says there are some bad hombres mixed up in the enormous Central American caravan winding its way to the United States. No, there are no Middle Easterners in the caravan, they say. No, there are no terrorists. No, there are no criminals. No, there are no gang members. President Trump is just trying to whip his base into a frenzy so they’ll go out and vote with their racist, fearful hearts on election day.
Well, one can only assume that the mainstream media will therefore ignore a new statement from the Department of Homeland Security that backs up the comments made by President Trump and Vice President Mike Pence.
On Thursday, DHS spokesman Tyler Houlton tweeted: “@DHSgov can confirm that there are individuals within the caravan who are gang members or have significant criminal histories. Citizens of countries outside Central America, including countries in the Middle East, Africa, South Asia, and elsewhere are currently traveling through Mexico toward the U.S.”
How about that.
President Trump this week said that the caravan was a national security threat among other problems, and that while he didn’t have direct proof of Middle Eastern terrorists hiding in amongst the migrant population, he was convinced that they were. This conviction led the media to accuse him of lying and stirring up fear in advance of the midterms, but this statement from the Department of Homeland Security should put that narrative to bed (ha!).
Houlton said that regardless of whether or not there were legitimate natsec threats among the caravan, it was still vitally important that it be stopped.
“Stopping the caravan is not just about national security or preventing crime, it is also about national sovereignty and the rule of law,” he tweeted. “Those who seek to come to American must do so the right and legal way.”
President Trump on Wednesday had harsh words for Democrats who have been urging the United States to have a welcoming attitude towards the caravan.
“For those who want and advocate for illegal immigration,” he wrote, “just take a good look at what has happened to Europe over the last 5 years. A total mess! They only wish they had that decision to make over again.”
