At a time when it would probably be in all of our best interests to keep public health officials focused on the actual pandemic that is racing through the population and has killed more than 150,000 Americans, Democrats in California are pushing to declare racism a “public health crisis” throughout the state, following the lead of several cities that have labeled the situation an emergency.
In an interview with the Orange County Register, Dr. Ravi Kavasery of AltaMed Health Services said that President Trump’s insistence on actually enforcing America’s immigration laws, illegal aliens have been imperiled. He said that because they are concerned about deportation and/or being excluded from citizenship review, they are forgoing their right to get on California’s Medicaid plan.
“The very first thing I see is patients who are scared to seek medical care because of policies such as the ‘public charge’ rule,” he said. “The public charge rule actively discourages immigrants and people of color from seeking medical care. It’s an excellent example that shows the link between systemic racism and public health. You see unequal access and health outcomes.”
There is nothing in the Trump administration’s policies, of course, to prevent illegal aliens from taking advantage of California’s Medicaid plan. But it is true that the public charge rule is a thing. It has nothing to do with “people of color,” as Dr. Kavasery knows full well. It has everything to do with enforcing a rule that is, incidentally, a major component of every single other country’s immigration process. Namely, if you’re going to come here just to go on the public dole…how about you just stay home?
That seems reasonable enough, but in an America where Democrats feel that taxpayers should support every disadvantaged individual in the Southern Hemisphere, it’s apparently racist to make this modest request.
Of course, this isn’t just about illegal immigration. This is about taking advantage of the “George Floyd Moment” to pander to minorities who have been swept up in the false narrative of police violence against black people. This is about co-opting the language of the coronavirus pandemic and pushing it over to the Black Lives Matter movement.
You have to give it to Democrats – whether you’re talking about climate change, racial justice, or the transgender agenda, they are experts about joining subjects that have absolutely nothing to do with each other. “Intersectionality” is less about recognizing a system of oppression and more about recognizing political opportunity when it presents itself.
Even if you have to really jam that square block into the round hole.
