Tom Ridge, the man who served as Secretary of Homeland Security under President Bush, said Sunday that Democrats were chasing the wrong dog by pursuing gun control legislation after the Orlando massacre on June 12. In an interview with New York’s 970AM, Ridge said, “The notion that somehow gun control would have eliminated that is just an absolute disconnect.”
In the weeks after the worst terrorist attack on American soil since 9/11, Democrats in both the House and Senate have tried to use the tragedy as an excuse to push gun control bills to the president’s desk. Those bills were rejected in the Senate, but House Democrats were angry that they didn’t even get to vote on legislation. They chose to organize a sit-in to protest, broadcasting the insanity on social media in what House Speaker Paul Ryan rightly called a “publicity stunt.”
Referring to those clowns, Ridge said, “You kind of wonder what kind of glasses some of the Democrats are wearing as they look at that horrible tragedy.”
Oh, that’s not too hard to figure out. It’s the same glasses they use to look at everything. Through those foggy lenses, they see America as a racist empire that does not deserve to be the most powerful country on the planet. They see a land of inequality, where straight white men are skipping along and humming a jaunty tune while everyone else is suffering. They see a country that could be perfect…if only they had full control over its citizens.
But to get to that point, they first have to do something about all of those pesky guns.
Democrats aren’t necessarily smart, but they aren’t dumb enough to believe that any of this legislation would have done anything to stop the Orlando attack. They couldn’t care less. The attack is just an excuse – a political opportunity that they will exploit for everything it’s worth. As always, their goals are: less freedom, fewer guns, and more federal control.
