In the wake of Andrew McCabe’s revelation that there were serious talks within the executive branch about using the 25th Amendment to remove President Trump from office, a former official in the George W. Bush administration not only has no problem with this attempted coup, he thinks the Cabinet should go forward with that very idea.
In an interview with MSNBC’s Brian Williams on Monday, former Bush White House ethics attorney Richard Painter said that Trump was “not well at all mentally” and that he needed to be removed from office.
After slamming Trump’s decision to declare a national emergency at the border, Painter said: “I think we need to understand, though, why we’re in this situation. The president is not well at all mentally. I think he’s an extreme narcissist. He has been denied what he wants, his wall, and he is having a hissy fit. He is out of control, and he will not take no for an answer from Congress. And he’s going do this.”
Painter went on to say that Trump was only interested in dividing us along political lines.
“He is going to insist on doing – he is going to tear the country apart,” Painter said. “It’s unconstitutional. It’s illegal. He is going to do enormous damage to the Republican Party which is going to split right down the middle over this, and we really need to keep in mind that this is because the president is not well. He is not capable of doing the job. He does need to be removed under the 25th amendment, but he stocked his cabinet with people who are unwilling to do that, and Congress is apparently unwilling to even try to remove him through impeachment.”
Painter is no stranger to the cable news circuit, and this is hardly the first time he’s gone on television to lash out at the president. These comments are more extreme than his usual barrage of complaints, but it’s pretty much par for the course. Democrats and NeverTrump Republicans are beginning to fear that Trump is just a little bit too successful for their liking. A little too successful to be easily defeated in 2020. And furthermore, they are losing hope in the once-magical promise of the Mueller investigation.
Instead of celebrating both of these unexpected twists in the tale, of course, they are livid and grasping at straws. Maybe we can impeach him anyway! Maybe we can have him declared mentally insane! They are willing to go to Batman-villain-levels of chicanery if it means they can be free of the MAGA presidency and get things back to the establishment “normal.” In other words, they’re sick to death of the people’s president. The White House belongs to THEM, dammit! Who is this guy to actually fix the problems that have plagued the ruling class for decades? We’ve gotta get him out of there before the American people really realize what we’ve been doing to them for the last 25 years.
They used to say that the worse a dose of medicine tasted, the more likely that it was working. Well, these liberals and RINOs certainly are having a hard time swallowing the Trump presidency. We will take that as a good sign.
