After Donald Trump called for a temporary ban on Muslim immigration last year, critics like Hillary Clinton said he would become a poster child for ISIS recruitment with extremist rhetoric like that. But according to former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, it’s Hillary – not Trump – who bears responsibility for the Islamic State. In an interview with the O’Reilly Factor on Wednesday, Giuliani said she had her chance to stop ISIS before it started. Instead, she helped facilitate their growth.
“She helped create ISIS,” Giuliani said. “I mean, Hillary Clinton could be considered a founding member of ISIS.”
Playing devil’s advocate, O’Reilly asked Giuliani how he could lay that charge at the former secretary of state’s feet.
Giuliani said, “By being part of an administration that withdrew from Iraq. By being part of an administration that let al-Maliki run Iraq into the ground, so you forced the Shiites to make a choice. By not intervening in Syria at the proper time. By being part of administration that drew 12 lines in the sand and made a joke out of it.”
O’Reilly argued that Hillary didn’t come up with the withdrawal strategy, and she would have had no other option but to resign if she disagreed with Obama’s timetable.
“Which,” Giuliani replied, “is what a patriot does.”
This conversation has been circling the rounds in the liberal media, with all the lefty commentators saying that George W. Bush bears more responsibility for the creation of ISIS than Obama, seeing as how there would have been no withdrawal without a war. It’s a fair point, but the fact remains and will always remain that we had Iraq under control by the time Bush left office. Had Obama cared to involve himself in a serious way in Iraq, he would have seen what a tragic mistake he was making with his early pullout. But he was so desperate to get the war off the books, he led us straight to the Middle Eastern dystopia we see today. Sure, Bush deserves some criticism. But it’s painful to watch these liberals bend over backwards to defend their knight in shining armor.
Either way, the Iraq War and its aftermath comes with a host of lessons. Are we going to go forward with a president who has learned none of those lessons? Hillary likes to tout her wealth of experience, but what good is experience when you didn’t learn anything from it?
