Good Grief: Dems Want to Ban “Twice-Impeached Presidents” From Arlington
If you thought for a second that finally getting him out of the White House would be the cure for Trump Derangement Syndrome that Democrats have been suffering from for the last five years, you can go ahead and think again. As we speak, House Democrats are working up a bill called the No Glory for Hate Act whose sole intention is to keep “any President that has been twice impeached” from having any federally funded statues, any monuments, street names, or even parks named after them. The legislation is even intended to block Trump from being buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
These people are truly deranged.
“No Federal funds may be used to create or display any symbol, monument, or statue commemorating any former President that has been twice impeached by the House of Representatives on or before the date of enactment of this Act or has been convicted of a State or Federal crime relating to actions taken in an official capacity as President of the United States on Federal public land, including any highway, park, subway, Federal building, military installation, street, or other Federal property; or name, designate, or redesignate a Federal building or Federal land after, or in commemoration of, any former President that has been twice impeached by the House of Representatives on or before the date of enactment of this Act or has been convicted of a State or Federal crime relating to actions taken in an official capacity as President of the United States,” reads the legislation.
You know that Rep. Linda Sanchez (D-CA) would have liked to write this in a way that simply designated “impeached presidents,” but then there would have been the whole Bill Clinton problem. So now we have this awkward, “blind item from Page Six” approach to writing bills. Somehow, Sanchez convinced 13 other lawmakers to join her in sponsoring this sorry piece of legislation.
“For years, Donald Trump poured gasoline on lies, encouraging racism and hatred, then lit the match on January 6th,” Sanchez said while promoting the bill. “A president who has been impeached twice does not deserve the honors bestowed on a former president. We should never glorify the hatred Donald Trump personified as President. This bill ensures that there is no glory for hate, not a building, statue, or even a park bench.”
The bill is currently percolating in the Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings, and Emergency Management. With any luck, that’s where it will stay.
