Good Omen: Pennsylvania Democrat Leaves Party Over Leftward Lurch
A Pennsylvania Democrat has announced that he’s leaving his party behind due to the increasing power of the far-left partisans who run the show. State Sen. John Yudichak said this week that he is going to become an Independent and caucus with Republicans, so disgusted he is with the current direction of the Democratic Party.
“As an Independent, I will continue to put people above politics,” said Yudichak. “I will continue to support Democratic ideas as well as Republican ideas when it is clear that they serve the greater good and help government work for people rather than the narrow interests of partisan purists.”
From Fox News:
Senate Minority Leader Jay Costa said Democrats were “extremely disappointed” by Yudichak’s decision to turn away from their “big tent” values.
Yudichak responded that the Democrats’ “tent is shrinking every day.”
The Republicans will likely have a 29-21 majority next year with the Yudichak and a January special election in a solidly Republican district.
“This is unique,” Yudichak said. “I’m an independent. I’m going to be fiercely independent. I’ve been independent by nature, now it’s going to be by party.”
Yudichak won re-election to a third term in 2018 in the district without any challengers.
This may be a small gesture in the grand scheme of national politics, but Democrats should view it as a canary in the coal mine. If they dismiss this as an insignificant aberration, they will come to regret it. Too many voters and politicians are looking at the party’s shift to the left with alarm bells in their eyes. They know to a certainty that America, as a whole, will never embrace socialism. And the same goes for the “woke” policies that attempt to make enemies out of white men, the American flag, the Pledge, the Founding Fathers, and everything else not deemed politically correct for our modern age.
For instance, on Tuesday the ACLU wished a happy International Men’s Day to “men who have their periods.” This is the kind of crap that plays well in Hollyweird and New York City…and just about nowhere in between. But the Democratic Party can’t embrace this nonsense fast enough. In doing so, they will lose people like John Yudichak.
And their “big tent” will be fluttering in the far winds before they realize what happened.
