In a scathing op-ed for Fox News this weekend, prime-time host Sean Hannity lit into Democratic presidential frontrunner (if not presumptive nominee) Joe Biden for his criticism of President Trump and his efforts to raise money in the middle of a global pandemic. Hannity took the former vice president to task for trying to turn crisis into political opportunity, a particularly terrible strategy because his “advice” to Trump is often weak, redundant, and lacking in real solutions.
In other words: It’s one thing to criticize a leader because you actually have better plans; it’s another to take the Biden route and criticize without offering anything original.
Hannity noted that much of Biden’s criticism comes in the form of tearing Trump down for taking action that may have saved thousands of lives. His plans are therefore not just “no better” but actively worse than the steps this administration has already taken.
“Let’s take a walk down memory lane,” wrote Hannity. “On Jan. 21, the first confirmed case of COVID-19 was diagnosed in the United States. Just 10 days later, on Jan. 31, President Trump declared a public health emergency, implemented quarantines and announced a ban on travel to and from China.
“On the very same day,” he recalled, “Biden called the president’s response ‘hysterical xenophobia’, and ‘fear-mongering’. To this day, Biden is STILL against travel bans of any kind — even though Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said the bans saved us from untold amounts of suffering.”
Well said. Joe Biden has never been the sharpest knife in the drawer, but his “wokeness” over the last year has been particularly hard to bear. Granted, it’s probably just posturing for the sake of winning the nomination, but still. His so-called “moderate” approach to illegal immigration would likely triple the number of aliens in this country within a decade. His fuming response to Trump’s Charlottesville speech has been colored by false sincerity, hyperbole, and an utter disregard for the facts. And his insistence on saying he would not ban travel of any kind to the U.S. during this pandemic is worse than woke: It’s downright stupid.
And his efforts to fundraise off this crisis are pathetic and immoral.
“Now, instead of lending support, he’s using this crisis as a political weapon,” Hannity wrote. “In fact, his campaign is fundraising off of COVID-19. Yes, Biden is actually trying to raise money in the middle of a pandemic.”
Oh, and lest we forget: There’s probably no politician in the entire Democratic Party more beholden to China than Joe Biden. That was a major weak point for his candidacy six weeks ago; it’s a death knell today. Anyone who still doesn’t understand the kind of threat China poses to the global economy (to say nothing of public health) isn’t fit to lead. And make no mistake, Joe Biden does not get it.
