Several months ago, the world collectively rolled its eyes when liberal website The Huffington Post grandly announced that they would relegate all Donald Trump coverage to their Entertainment section. In December, when it became clear that Trump wasn’t going away, the website quietly abandoned that silly protest and put Trump articles back under the Politics heading.
Apparently, though, two months of “objective” coverage (which was anything but, of course) was all HuffPo could stand. Sensing perhaps that their readers were not intelligent enough to grasp their strong anti-Trump bias in the actual text of the articles, they’ve now decided to amend every Trump piece with a special disclaimer:
Note to our readers: Donald Trump is a serial liar, rampant xenophobe, racist, birther and bully who has repeatedly pledged to ban all Muslims — 1.6 billion members of an entire religion — from entering the U.S.
This is similar to the boilerplate phrase Wikipedia puts on their professional wrestling articles, informing readers that the subject in question is predetermined and scripted. Well, similar, except for the fact that the Wikipedia disclaimer is rooted in fact – if unnecessary fact – and the HuffPo disclaimer is the usual liberal-media garbage.
When Politico asked HuffPo why they were attaching the message to Trump’s articles, a spokesman said, “No other candidate has called for banning 1.6 billion people from the country! If any other candidate makes such a proposal, we’ll append a note under pieces about them.”
Is it even worth it to point out the obvious truth? That Trump has never said that Muslims will be banned from the United States? He called for a temporary moratorium on Muslim immigration until, in his words, “we can figure out what the hell is going on.” Temporary! He didn’t come up with this in some laboratory of random xenophobia, he said it as a response to the recent terrorist attacks in San Bernardino and Paris.
Serial liar? Has Trump lied more than Hillary Clinton? More than HuffPo?
Rampant xenophobe? When has Trump ever said one cross word about any foreign citizen? He’s said plenty of things about foreign governments and illegal immigrants, but that hardly qualifies as xenophobia.
Racist? There’s simply no evidence whatsoever to support this charge.
Birther? Well, yes, he did call for Obama’s birth certificate. Then again, he’s made the same allegations about Ted Cruz, so you can’t exactly call him out on inconsistency.
Bully? This is just name-calling.
HuffPo doesn’t really have a reputation to endanger – anyone still reading that trash site knows what they’re getting – but the more legitimate press had better think long and hard before following them down this path. The insults don’t begin and end with Trump; by proxy, these sites and papers and news shows are also insulting Trump’s supporters. The backlash against entrenched, mainstream liberalism is here; the Republican establishment will not be the only ones to suffer the consequences.
