“I Represent #WeThePeople!”: Lawyer Sidney Powell is Out on Her Own
Having been publicly disowned by Rudy Giuliani and the president, attorney Sidney Powell issued two statements on Sunday insisting that her work to expose the truth about the 2020 election would not cease just because the Trump team is now distancing itself from her.
This weekend, after even some supporters of the president cast doubts about some of the more controversial theories that Powell had championed – theories that include the late Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez and a vast conspiracy to make American voting machines the tools of fraud – folks on the Trump campaign legal team decided they’d heard enough.
“Sidney Powell is practicing law on her own,” the legal team said in a statement. “She is not a member of the Trump Legal Team. She is also not a lawyer for the President in his personal capacity.”
In a response to CBS News, Powell said that nothing had changed.
“I understand today’s press release. I will continue to represent #WeThePeople who had their votes for Trump and other Republicans stolen by massive fraud through Dominion and Smartmatic, and we will be filing suit soon. The chips will fall where they may, and we will defend the foundations of this great Republic. #KrakenOnSteroids,” she wrote.
In a second, longer statement, Powell made it clear that she wasn’t about to back away from her claims – even the ones that are a bit more…expansive…than the rest of the Trump legal team is comfortable taking on.
“I agree with the campaign’s statement that I am not part of the campaign’s legal team. I never signed a retainer agreement or sent the President or the campaign a bill for my expenses or fees,” she explained. “My intent has always been to expose all the fraud I could find and let the chips fall where they may–whether it be upon Republicans or Democrats.
“The evidence I’m compiling is overwhelming that this software tool was used to shift millions of votes from President Trump and other Republican candidates to Biden and other Democrat candidates. We are proceeding to prepare our lawsuit and plan to file it this week. It will be epic,” she promised. “We will not allow this great Republic to be stolen by communists from without and within or our votes altered or manipulated by foreign actors in Hong Kong, Iran, Venezuela, or Serbia, for example, who have neither regard for human life nor the people who are the engine of this exceptional country.”
We certainly love Powell’s passion, and it’s hard to fault her for a commitment to rooting out fraud. But as the old saying goes – at some point, you’ve got to put up or shut up. We sincerely hope that Powell has the goods.
It would, indeed, be epic.
