Immigration Activists Bash Democrats for Backing Down on DACA
Democrats opted, wisely, not to shut down the federal government this week for the sake of going to the mattresses over Obama’s Dreamers. While Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer were both on record as saying they would not go home for Christmas without a deal to secure amnesty for those illegal immigrants who had been protected by Barack Obama’s executive actions, they realized as time drew near that this would have been a catastrophic move politically. The average Democrat voter may vaguely support amnesty, but is there enough passion there to support a full shutdown over a spending bill? Nah. Not outside the bluest of the blue districts.
But their broken promises were sure to anger some – most notably the people who make their living by pushing for terrible immigration policies. These people weren’t even satisfied with the job Barack Obama did to protect illegals, so it’s no surprise that they’re even angrier nowadays. One might wonder how these activists got so powerful in AMERICAN politics, but Democrats are plenty willing to bow to even the smallest, strangest minority interests. And of course, these interests are almost certainly fueled financially by corporate entities who are making a TON of money exploiting immigrant labor.
But we digress.
From the Washington Post:
“Every single Democrat who voted for the continuing resolution just voted to deport ‘dreamers’ and leave kids without access to health insurance,” said Murshed Zaheed, the political director of the California-based progressive group CREDO Action. “Quite frankly, it’s a pathetic way for the Democratic Party’s leadership to close out a year in which millions of Americans fought back and resisted the Trump regime’s racist, xenophobic and dangerous agenda.”
The internal party drama is sure to increase the pressure on Schumer and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to pass the Dream Act in January, when the latest stopgap spending bill is set to expire. It also threatens the party’s unity — and perhaps divisive primary challenges — at a time when Democrats are looking ahead to the 2018 midterms with new optimism that they have a chance to take control of both chambers.
As excited as we are by anything that knocks the Democrats back in the dirt, we can’t help but get a little bit angry on their behalf. Yes, they deserve it by making common cause with people who shouldn’t be in this country (though Republicans have done their fair share of that as well), but it stuns us whenever we remember how monstrously ENTITLED these groups are! Remember when Pelosi was out there promising to stand up for Dreamers and activists were heckling her and saying ALL illegal immigrants deserve amnesty? It’s amazing. YOU BROKE THE LAW. GO AWAY!
For some reason, almost no one in Washington is willing to say that, though. For $ome reason, indeed.
