As part of their strategy in Donald Trump’s impending Senate trial, the former president’s lawyers say they will show video clips of Democrats inciting violence in recent months and years. In an interview with Fox News’s Laura Ingraham, attorney Bruce Castor said that he’s been scouring hours of videos to compile a montage that should prove the point: Democrats are throwing stones from the comfort of a very fragile glass house.
“If my eyes look a little red to the viewers, it’s because I have been looking at a lot of videos the last couple of days,” Castor revealed.
He said that many Democrats were wholly supportive of the race riots that saw several major American cities burned and destroyed in the wake of George Floyd’s death.
“Many of them [Democrats] in Washington using really the most inflammatory rhetoric as possible to use,” he said. “But here when you have the president of the United States give a speech and says ‘you should peacefully make your thinking known to the people in Congress,’ he all of a sudden the villain. So you better be careful what you wish for.”
Castor did not give specific examples of the clips he intends to show to the Senate, but if he wants to present evidence that Democrats have urged, encouraged, and celebrated violence, he should have no trouble making a very long video.
As Republicans brought up last week when defending Trump and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, Squad-member Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) went on television to give BLM riots a boost not that long ago.
“Make the phone calls, send the emails, show up,” Pressley said on MSNBC. “There needs to be unrest in the streets for as long as there’s unrest in our lives. And unfortunately, there’s plenty to go around.”
Or how about Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ), who said in 2018 that voters should “get up in the face of some congresspeople” if they want to see action on Capitol Hill.
Or what about Hillary Clinton, who said that year: “You can’t be civil with a political party that wants to destroy what you stand for and what you care for.”
And who can forget about Mad Maxine Waters, who encouraged Americans to go out, find Trump administration officials, and drive them out of public places?
“You get out and create a crowd. You push back on them. You tell them they are not welcomed anymore or anywhere,” said Waters at the time. “Be more forceful, more confrontational, and more prepared to push back on this administration.”
And that’s really just the tip of the iceberg. If Dems want to play this game, then let’s play.
