Iraq War Veteran Raises More Than $2 Million to Build The Wall
On Fox News, the New York Post, and elsewhere, conservatives have lightly suggested that if Congress won’t give President Donald Trump the money to build the wall, perhaps the American people should just crowdfund the damn thing. It was a tongue-in-cheek suggestion, since the idea of crowdfunding billions of dollars is a ridiculous proposition…or is it?
At least one man didn’t think so. U.S. military veteran Brian Kolfage, who lost both legs and his right hand after a rocket attack in Iraq, thought it was a pretty good idea. So instead of sitting around musing about the possibility, he got started. He opened up a GoFundMe campaign called “We The People Will Fund The Wall,” and in only three days, the project has already raised more than $2 million from patriots across the United States.
“If the 63 million people who voted for Trump each pledge $80, we can build the wall,” the page reads. “That equates to roughly 5Billion Dollars, even if we get half, that’s half the wall. We can do this.”
“As a veteran who has given so much, 3 limbs, I feel deeply invested to this nation to ensure future generations have everything we have today,” Kolfage continues. “Too many Americans have been murdered by illegal aliens and too many illegals are taking advantage of the United States taxpayers with no means of ever contributing to our society.
“Democrats are going to stall this project by every means possible and play political games to ensure President Trump doesn’t get his victory,” he warns. “They’d rather see President Trump fail than see America succeed. However, if we can fund a large portion of this wall, it will jumpstart things and will be less money Trump has to secure from our politicians.”
It is clear, after this latest spending bill fight, that Congress is never – EVER – going to pony up the money for the kind of border security we need to actually stop illegal immigration in its tracks. But wouldn’t it be one of the greatest moments in American history if Kolfage’s efforts were to succeed? Has there ever been another government project where the people rose up and said, Look, get the hell out of the way, we’ll just cover this ourselves!?
What Kolfage has already raised should be a major wakeup call to Trump, Republicans, and even Democrats in Washington. This should be an alarm bell to anyone who thinks Trump’s supporters are just writing off the wall as another sensationalistic campaign promise that wasn’t meant to be taken seriously. NO. This is what we voted for, and this is what we damn well want. And if we have to raise the money ourselves, well, it appears there are a great many people ready to do just that.
