Republicans are outraged over new reports proving that anti-Trump bias guided and threw off course two major FBI investigations: The one into Trump’s relationship with Moscow and the one into Hillary Clinton’s mishandling of classified information. Several GOP representatives want to know why the facts of both investigations seem to show evidence of a double standard, such as two very different outcomes for those who have lied to Bureau agents.
In an interview with “Fox & Friends” on Wednesday, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) questioned the FBI’s partisan activities.
“Hillary Clinton gets special justice,” he said, “and at the same time we’re siccing people who hate the president on him, and that’s deeply unfair.”
Gaetz and his GOP colleagues are calling on FBI Director Christopher Wray to launch an investigation into how the Hillary Clinton case was handled and how it differs from the way the Trump investigation has proceeded. Not only are they concerned about the revelations regarding top counterintelligence agent Peter Strzok, who was busted sending anti-Trump text messages to his mistress, but also about top FBI official Andrew McCabe, whose pro-Democrat biases have been a source of consternation for many conservatives worried about injustice in the Bureau.
And the concerns don’t stop with those two. On Tuesday, the government watchdog group Judicial Watch publicly released an email from one of Mueller’s top investigators. In January, Andrew Weissman wrote to outgoing acting Attorney General Sally Yates after she was fired for refusing to defend Trump’s travel ban in court. “I am so proud,” Weissman wrote at the time. “And in awe. Thank you so much. All my deepest respects.”
In a statement, Judicial Watch’s Tom Fitton said the Weissmann email was an “astonishing and disturbing find.”
Astonishing and disturbing. Two good words that basically sum up everything we’ve learned over the past week as it pertains to the FBI investigations into Clinton and Trump. As if it were not obvious before, it is clearer than ever that something fishy is going on in Washington. It is not coincidence, nor some complex legal scheme us layman can’t possibly understand, that explains why Clinton associates like Cheryl Mills and Huma Abedin faced no punishment whatsoever for lying to the FBI. And, of course, meanwhile we have Michael Flynn being charged for the exact same crime. This is the witch hunt that President Trump always said that it was, and it’s time for Republicans to take a firm stand for justice and for their president. For OUR president.
