Liberals are Shockingly Honest About Why They Don’t Want Citizenship Question
The Supreme Court heard oral arguments in the case of the Department of Commerce v. New York on Tuesday. This case will see the justices decide if it is legal for the Trump administration to add a question to the 2020 Census asking respondents whether or not they are United States citizens. While this question has been a part of the census in the past without controversy, liberals, activists, and Democrats insist that it’s different this time around. They’re worried that illegal immigrants will decline to fill out the census form if that question is included…and they are shockingly honest about why that’s an intense problem for them.
“No logical leap is required here: given the potential immigration consequences of being identified by the government as lacking legal immigration status, common sense explains the reluctance of noncitizens to self-identify on a government form,” said Democrats in their amicus brief to the Court.
We suppose we can see their point: Immigrants who thought nothing of breaking U.S. law to get here in the first place will naturally be doubly-inclined to break it again to preserve their secret status. The question remains, however, why it is suddenly so important to Democrats that Trump not mess up the Census and accidentally get the count wrong?
Well, the California state legislature spells it out.
“California is expected to lose at least one seat in the House of Representatives and possibly more,” it said in a filing with the Supreme Court. “Depending on the experts’ estimated undercount attributable to the additional question, that number could be as high as a loss of three seats. Because many federal programs are based on population, California and its local jurisdictions will lose significant federal funding.”
Ah. There it is.
So let’s get this completely straight.
California, a state that not only refuses to help federal officials deport illegal immigrants but actually penalizes anyone – sheriffs, politicians, private business owners – who does, is demanding that the Court strike this question from the Census because they might lose congressional representation…that they ONLY have because of their illegal alien population! How marvelously honest of them to admit it.
If we were sitting on the Supreme Court, this would be all we needed to hear to come to a decision. You’re not going to game the federal government out of money – you’re not going to get extra congressional representation – by stuffing your state full of people who don’t actually belong in this country. That way lies madness.
But hey, this is all academic if these supposedly honest, law-abiding, patriotic illegal aliens will fill out the Census as they are required to by law.
