Sensing that the tide of public opinion is turning against the national abortion mill known as Planned Parenthood, liberals everywhere are bringing out the big guns. Extremist Nancy Pelosi, the Democrat who doesn’t think there’s anything wrong with San Francisco’s sanctuary city policy, was fit to be tied this week when asked about the subject.
“This is more than Planned Parenthood,” Pelosi told reporters this week. “It’s about women, it’s about reproductive freedom, it’s about respect for women’s judgment about the sizing and timing of their families. How dare they be so disrespectful to women? How dare they be so disregarding of women’s health issues.”
On a roll, Pelosi recounted decades of Republican opposition to Planned Parenthood. “The hardest thing that I’ve ever had to do,” she said, “is to convince people that what was going on here was anti-family planning. It wasn’t about abortion — grant everybody where they are on that subject — but they did not support family planning. If you don’t like termination of a pregnancy, you must love family planning, right? Do we need to have a discussion of the birds and bees with them?”
Perhaps Pelosi found that the “hardest thing” she’s ever had to do because it’s very difficult to get millions of Americans to believe a blatant lie. But, to give her and her pro-abortion cadre their due credit, they managed to get it done. And hiding behind terms like “pro-choice” and “family planning” helped a lot. These liberals hate the videos exposing Planning Parenthood because their simple truth was enough to undo years of shady propaganda. And that’s why they are so desperate to regain the high ground.
Bob Cesca, writing in Salon, tried to do his part by casting Planned Parenthood as a victim of right-wing extremism. Speaking to the videos, Cesca said, “Yes, it’s all very graphic to laypeople, but the procedure shouldn’t in any universe morally justify threats or acts of terrorism. The same can be said about too many congressional and state level Republicans who are wasting untold millions of dollars in taxpayer revenue to investigate Planned Parenthood based on completely false charges.”
Yes, it’s all very graphic to laypeople…
Just imagine how loose your moral structure would have to be for you to dismiss the deaths of thousands in this way. And then remember that Cesca isn’t some lone kook; effectively, he speaks the same language as every single Democrat who defends this abomination. That’s not to say that he’s wrong about terrorism, but you can oppose two things as wrong if your moral compass isn’t irretrievably broken.
As for Republicans, many in the House of Representatives want to defund Planned Parenthood regardless of whether or not they violated federal law. “I don’t know whether we’re ever going to be able to answer that question, whether it was illegal for them to do what they were doing,” said Rep. Raúl Labrador (R-Idaho). “I don’t know if it was illegal … but it was immoral, what was seen on that video.”
And that’s essentially what it’s come to. The horror of these videos has brought the truth of abortion back to the mainstream American conversation, providing the spark needed to make some serious changes. It’s one thing to stand by and allow this evil to exist in our country. It’s quite another to actively give the organization billions in taxpayer money. If this nation is to stand for something great around the world, we must first address the genocide happening on our own shores.
