Three liberal groups have their sights set on delaying, if not blocking entirely, the Senate confirmation hearings of Jeff Sessions. The Alabama Republican has been tapped to be Donald Trump’s attorney general, and his record of supporting law enforcement officers has liberals running scared. They fear that Trump and Sessions will roll back many of the Obama administration’s efforts to control the nation’s police officers from their cozy Washington enclave.
This week, the National Council of Asian Pacific Americans, People for the American Way, and Alliance for Justice pressed the Senate to delay Sessions’ hearings until he completes a questionnaire sent to the Senate Judiciary Committee. Supposedly, Sessions did not provide enough documentation regarding media interviews he’s done over the years.
“Sen. Sessions claims that records do not exist for the vast majority of press interviews he has given over the years. However, many are easily located online,” the groups said.
Well, if they are so easily located, then what’s the problem? This admission breaks their whole argument. If the Senate wants to peruse Sessions’ interviews, they apparently have to go no further than Google to get what they’re after. We’re not exactly talking about a major political coverup here, are we?
Sen. Chuck Grassley’s office blasted Sessions’ liberal critics, saying he had been fully forthcoming with requested information.
“The notion that Senator Sessions — somebody who committee members have known and served beside for 20 years — hasn’t made a good faith effort to supply the committee with responsive material is preposterous,” said a spokeswoman for Grassley. “It’s been clear from the day Senator Sessions’ nomination was announced that the left-wing advocacy groups aren’t interested in a fair process and just want a fight. We trust the minority committee members will have the courage to give Senator Sessions the fair and respectful process he deserves.”
Under the Obama administration, the war on cops has been legitimized. At every possible opportunity, this president and his Justice Department have taken the side of liberal race-baiters. They have demonized good police officers while celebrating scumbag criminals.
That’s about to change, and the left knows it. They are terrified that Sessions and Trump will restore common sense to our justice system instead of making it impossible for police to do their jobs. Instead of investigating and prosecuting police departments, they will support them in the fight against crime.
If you’re a Democrat who thinks a police uniform is just a modern version of the Klan robe, what could be scarier?
