By now it’s become a common complaint on the left that President Trump’s controversies come so quickly and so often that there’s no chance for any of them to really stick in the public consciousness. To their way of telling it, this phenomenon happens either by way of strategy on the part of our devious president or the simple fact of his recklessness. But while we won’t deny that there is a “one damn thing after another” aspect to the media’s coverage of Trump, the left has overlooked the possibility that it is the MEDIA creating the controversies – not the president.
Did we say “possibility?” Um, we meant the “fact.”
Take this situation in Hawaii as the perfect example. Now we’re not saying that it wasn’t headline news that millions of Hawaiians thought for a few minutes that they were about to be on the receiving end of a North Korean nuclear attack. Certainly, this is the kind of thing headlines were made for. And we’re not pretending that something isn’t terribly wrong when a false alarm about an incoming ballistic missile attack goes out over the digital airwaves. There is. And we’d go a step further to say that someone is to blame, there needs to be a review, and someone is probably going to lose their job – rightfully so.
But here’s what the left did: The story had only just hit the news when Trump’s critics immediately did what they ALWAYS do, which is to make the story about our president. And it is here that we see that the left and the media (to the extent they are separate) create their own “one damn thing after another” problem. Trump had absolutely nothing to do with the emergency alert malfunction in Hawaii, but here comes a cavalcade of critics and celebrities to remind everyone that EVERYTHING is Trump’s fault…or, at the very least, an excuse to bash him on social media.
Has-been actress Jamie Lee Curtis said on Twitter: “This Hawaii missile scare is on YOU Mr. Trump. The real FEAR that mothers & fathers & children felt is on YOU. It is on YOUR ARROGANCE. HUBRIS. NARCISSISM. RAGE. EGO. IMMATURITY and your UNSTABLE IDIOCY. Shame on your hate filled self. YOU DID THIS!”
What. The. Hell.
Not to be outdone, actor Jim Carrey said much the same on his own Twitter account. “I woke up this morning in Hawaii with ten minutes to live. It was a false alarm, but a real psychic warning. If we allow this one-man Gomorrah and his corrupt Republican congress to continue alienating the world we are headed for suffering beyond all imagination.”
Then there were cheap shots like this one from CNN’s Keith Boykin, who said, “President Trump was on the golf course in Florida when the ballistic missile strike false alarm message was sent out in Hawaii. Of course he was.”
Because we all know that Obama wouldn’t have been caught dead on a golf course.
It gets old, the way the left is obsessed with Trump, but we are not necessarily encouraging them to knock it off. The more looney they get about the president, the more of “normal” America they will lose in the process. You’d think they would have learned that lesson from the election itself, but you know liberals…
