A very special thing happened this week – a radio event that was music to the ears of any conservative beaming about the direction of our country these days. Maybe we’re overselling it, but when we listened to the short conversation Rush Limbaugh had with President Trump on the 30th anniversary of his show, it brought us right back to that historic night in 2016 when a billionaire from New York City shocked the world. For a few minutes, we were able to forget all of the negativity the press has laid on this administration, forget about all the intense hatred that has been thrown at supporters of the president, and just enjoy the fact that WE WON and we are STILL WINNING.
Our favorite exchange occurred early in the conversation, when Rush asked the president the kind of question he would be asked every day by the mainstream media…if the mainstream media were not desperate to destroy him. This reminded us so much of the kind of crap that the press used to ask Obama, that hearing it only reinforced how bizarre, angry, and deranged the media coverage of this president has been.
“Are you aware of what you mean to people who voted for you?” Limbaugh asked. “People have invested their hopes and their futures in this country being made great again. When you’re alone in the White House, do you think about that? Do you ponder what you’ve come to mean to people?”
“Well, I love these people,” Trump said. “And, you know, you probably saw last night I was in Florida and we had 9,000 seats in the auditorium. I must tell you, it’s such an honor to me to see this. This love! I don’t know if you were able to see it last night, any of them. I mean, there’s such tremendous love. I’m going to Ohio on Saturday, and tomorrow I’m going to Pennsylvania, and it’s the same thing.
“It’s like the enthusiasm — and part of it is that they’ve really been mistreated for so many years by the politicians,” Trump continued. “The country’s been mistreated. The trade deals were so bad. The taxes were so high. The tax cuts are so good; they’ve been so appreciated by so many people. The cut in regulations maybe is just as important as the tax cuts because businesses are hiring like they haven’t, like they’ve never hired before. And, you know, we have a more interesting stat: We have more people working in the United States today than at any time in our history. And it’s been so many different things are happening. So there’s a tremendous amount of love in the room, and I am aware of it; there’s no question about it.”
Not to get all maudlin about it, but we just thought that whole exchange – and really, the whole conversation – was tremendous. The lefties and the elitists and the media will never, ever understand the bond that people have formed with this president, who is unlike any politician we’ve seen in our lifetimes. This is a guy who has flaunted all the rules, gone against all the conventional wisdom, and has actually SEEN the Americans that have been ignored (or worse, turned into token playthings) by generations of presidents and lawmakers. You can’t fake that. And as Rush said, you can’t downplay how much that means to people.
The media will never get it. Then again, they don’t really want to.
