Michelle Obama Labels Trump a “Racist” for Criticizing Violent Riots
Well, here we are at long last. The Obamas have managed to avoid throwing this word at President Trump for years, leaving themselves as perhaps the last Democrats in the country to keep the charged “R” word off the table. But it’s 2020, everything is racist, and so why bother to hold back, right? We suppose that’s what Michelle Obama was thinking when she appeared in a new campaign video for Joe Biden, accusing Trump of being racist for condemning the ongoing violence and destruction we’ve seen in the wake of George Floyd’s death in May.
“Right now, the president and his allies are trying to tap into that frustration and distract from his breathtaking failures by giving folks someone to blame other than them,” Mrs. Obama said in the video. “They’re stoking fears about Black and Brown Americans, lying about how minorities will destroy the suburbs, whipping up violence and intimidation — and they’re pinning it all on what’s been an overwhelmingly peaceful movement for racial solidarity.
“It’s true, research backs it up; only a tiny fraction of demonstrations have had any violence at all,” she claimed. “So what the president is doing is, once again, patently false. It’s morally wrong, and yes, it is racist.”
She continued: “But that doesn’t mean it won’t work. Because this is a difficult time, a confusing time, and when people hear these lies and these crazy conspiracies repeated over, and over, and over again, they don’t know what to think. With everything going on in their lives, they don’t have time to fact-check falsehoods being spread throughout the Internet, and even reasonable people might get scared. And one thing this president is really good at is using fear and confusion and spreading lies to win.”
So anyway. Yeah.
While it’s true that there have been studies that show that the majority of BLM protests have been peaceful, that really doesn’t matter all that much when the minority that aren’t peaceful still number in the hundreds. Furthermore, it’s not clear how “peaceful” protests are counted. Does a protest count as “mostly” peaceful if it was peaceful all day and then turned into a riot that night? We’d say not, but we’re guessing that the study said yes. By that standard, you could even say the ongoing unrest in Portland has been “mostly peaceful,“ as absurd as that would sound to any reasonable person.
It’s not racist to call a thing what it is, and it’s not racist to say people did something wrong. Just because the perpetrators happen to be black and happen to be fighting for a “black cause” makes no difference.
Biden is going to mess around with this “racism” tag and end up getting knocked out cold on Election Day.
