In a new plan meant to push back on immigration activists who say he’s too far to the right on deportations, 2020 Democratic Party presidential contender Joe Biden is proposing to provide a “roadmap to citizenship” for 11 million illegal immigrants living in the United States.
On Wednesday, the Biden campaign unveiled a proposal that would also send $4 billion of taxpayer money to Central America and deny any funding for a wall across the U.S. border. Additionally, the plan would solidify into law protections granted under President Obama’s “Dream Act.”
“Biden will immediately begin working with Congress to modernize our system, with a priority on keeping families together by providing a roadmap to citizenship for nearly 11 million undocumented immigrants,” the plan says.
Biden did not try to hide the fact that his proposal was an attempt to win over the leftist base that was incensed by deportations under President Obama.
“Joe Biden understands the pain felt by every family across the U.S. that has had a loved one removed from the country, including under the Obama-Biden Administration, and he believes we must do better to uphold our laws humanely and preserve the dignity of immigrant families, refugees, and asylum-seekers,” the campaign said.
You gotta say, running as a pro-illegal-immigrant candidate three years after a president was elected on a promise to “build a wall” is a bold move, Cotton. We’ll see how it plays out. Polls still show that illegal immigration is one of the most important issues facing the United States. And for Biden to come up with such a proposal only a year after the southern border was under siege from caravan after caravan…well, he must think there is a lot of power in the Hispanic activist community. We’re not so sure about that, but we’re sure Biden’s campaign knows what it’s doing. Ahem.
Maybe it will be effective insofar that it will help him win the Democratic nomination. But for any independents who are looking at Biden as a way out of the constant Trump Controversy era, it proves that Joe Biden is not the moderate he claims to be. He may not be promising to “decriminalize the border” like some of the imbeciles he’s facing, but his presidency would be a dramatic lurch to the left for this country. And if we get softer – rather than harder – on illegal immigration right now, it will have permanent consequences for the future of this country.
