Mueller Saves America by Putting Trump Campaign Adviser in Jail for Two Weeks
Boy, what would our nation do without the courageous and oh-so-necessary Special Counsel investigation into the Trump campaign’s associations with Russia during the 2016 election. Keeping in mind that exactly zero (0) people have been charged with anything resembling the “collusion” that supposedly lies at the heart of this case, Robert Mueller nabbed him another Trump associate on Friday and a judge sentenced this malcontent danger to democracy with an entire 14 days in prison. Make no mistake about it, with George Papadopoulos off our streets for the next two weeks, America is a safer place!
Like Mike Flynn, Paul Manafort, Michael Cohen, Robert Gates, and the other Americans who have fallen afoul of the special counsel, the charges brought against Papadopoulos had nothing to do with Russia’s hacking of the DNC. They are related to Papadopoulos lying to FBI agents about a meeting he had with a professor who told him that Russia was in possession of Hillary Clinton’s missing emails.
Again, none of this has a thing to do with the DNC hacking that comprises the bulk of the claim that “Russia interfered in our elections,” which is, frankly, a dubious way to refer to the situation in the first place. Papadopoulos was not up front with investigators about the information he got from Professor Joseph Mifud, but to this day there is no evidence that he shared that information with anyone else on the Trump campaign. And there is certainly no evidence that Russia actually HAD those emails or that anyone on the Trump campaign made any effort to retrieve them.
But that’s this investigation in a nutshell. Smoke and mirrors. Grand claims…and then tiny, irrelevant charges that are so distant from the original claims that they might as well not exist.
Papadopoulos was extremely contrite about his deception in public statements following the sentencing.
“I wanted to distance myself as much as possible — and Trump himself and the campaign — from what was probably an illegal action or dangerous information,” he said, when asked to explain why he lied to the FBI.
Here’s what we’d really like to know: Why did Mifud go to Papadopoulos with this information in the first place? Why did Papadopoulos share it with a random Australian diplomat in the early summer of 2016? How much would you like to bet that Clinton/Fusion/the Democratic Party was behind some of this crap?
This has smelled like a setup for a long time, and we’re still convinced that that’s exactly what it was. The left (with some help from a select few NeverTrumpers on the right) wanted to lure the inexperienced Trump team into making a huge mistake – getting caught cozying up to the Russians. And since then, we’ve been caught in this neverending investigation that is as much about covering up the dirty tracks as it is about actually getting to the truth. If we had serious journalists working on this story, the charade would have been up a long time ago.
Unfortunately, they’re as much in on it as Mueller and the rest of his cronies.
