At least 23 Democrats will be morbidly disappointed by this news out of Zogby. According to the pollsters, Donald Trump just hit the highest approval numbers of his presidency, not only blowing past his own top scores but even eclipsing where Barack Obama was at this point in his first term. With a 51% approve/48% disapprove margin, Trump seems poised to head into next year’s race with a much stronger position than he had when he went up against Hillary Clinton in 2016. Who do the Democrats have that can mount a serious challenge?
“President Trump’s job approval rating is the highest we have on record,” reported Zogby. “A slim majority strongly and somewhat approve of his job performance as president. His numbers are being driven by decent job growth, an inflated stock market, solid GDP figures, and low unemployment, but there are potential foreign policy threats like Iran, North Korea and a trade war with China, which could derail his current popularity with voters.
“Besides a good economy and vindication from the Mueller report, Trump’s good approval rating is being driven by a surge in popularity among college educated voters, voters living in the Western region, Independents, Millennials, suburban men, urban men, and middle aged voters. Trump’s approval rating has improved with minorities-27% of African Americans and 45% of Hispanics approve of the president-both very good numbers historically for Trump,” the pollsters continued.
With these numbers in his pocket, Trump’s second-term ambitions could well be unstoppable. He’s up against a clown-car of Democratic candidates – double emphasis on the “clown.” From socialist Bernie Sanders to socialist Bill de Blasio to gaffe-machine Joe Biden, the Democrats have yet to come up with anyone who has a shred of credibility, much less an ounce of political charisma. Where are the Bill Clintons? Where are the Barack Obamas? The only Democrat with anything resembling the “it” factor is a 29-year-old girl from the Bronx who won’t be eligible to run for another six years.
As we await that terrifying day, though, things are looking pretty good. The economy is soaring, Trump’s coalition is growing, and there is no more “Mueller Day” looming on the horizon. Yes, it’s early, and it would not be wise to get cocky, but there’s a damn good chance we can take this MAGA movement all the way to 2024.
Sorry, Dems. Looks like Trump may be “not your president” for just a while longer.
