Nary a week goes by that the American left does not openly admit that they’re rooting for President Donald Trump to fail. Not that they want him to “fail” to build a border wall or “fail” to enact a ban on Middle Eastern countries; these are obvious policy platforms that the Democrats would naturally oppose him on. But no, they not only want him to fail to implement conservative solutions to the ails of our country, they also want him to fail when it comes to things that all Americans should agree on. Like, say, a nuclear deal with North Korea.
“Democrats are so obviously rooting against us in our negotiations with North Korea,” wrote President Trump on Friday. “Just like they are coming to the defense of MS 13 thugs, saying that they are individuals & must be nurtured, or asking to end your big Tax Cuts & raise your taxes instead. Dems have lost touch!”
That’s a brutal assessment of one of this country’s two political parties…but what did Trump write that was in error? The facts stand for themselves, and the left cannot but take responsibility for their actions. At every turn, they have opposed this administration – even when the goals of this president align with their own stated beliefs. They have done so not out of any ideological adherence but out of pure spite. Out of pure hatred for this man, his supporters, and the shocking (to them) result of the 2016 election. These are the same people who were aghast when Mitch McConnell said that the Republicans’ goal was to make Obama a one-term president. But for Democrats, the goal isn’t to defeat Trump in 2020, it’s to get him out of the White House as soon as possible.
The only thing stopping them (other than a little thing called a Republican majority) is the undoubtedly frustrating fact that Trump is doing an extraordinary job as president. His approval ratings are finally on the rise, the economy is booming, and his decisions on foreign policy have been unerring, courageous, and profitable. Everywhere you look, things are turning up Trump, and the Democrats can’t stand it.
So when Trump pulled the plug on the historic summit with Kim Jong Un, the relief among Democrats was palpable. There was serious talk – even among Democrats like Jimmy Carter – about awarding Trump a Nobel Peace Prize if he could convince North Korea to give up their nuclear weapons. So it’s no wonder that Democrats could barely hold back their glee when the summit fell through…and why they’re hoping against hope that Trump and Kim do not salvage the talks. This is a victory that would make Trump unstoppable in 2020.
It’s just really sad that Democrats are so concerned about that election that they’re willing to actively root against the U.S.’s best interests. Sad…but not in the least surprising.
