On Eve of First Debate, Nancy Pelosi Says Joe Biden Should Pull Out
For the second time, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said this week that Joe Biden should refuse to debate President Donald Trump on Tuesday night. In an interview with CBS’s Gayle King, Pelosi said that because Trump has “no fidelity” to facts or truth, Biden shouldn’t lower himself to stand on a stage with him.
“Trump and his henchman are a danger—with their comments—are a danger to our democracy,” Pelosi said. “So I don’t want to give him—why bother? He doesn’t tell the truth, he isn’t committed to our Constitution.”
King, to her credit, pushed back against Pelosi.
“But Speaker Pelosi, that’s what people say is the problem: Your language is, to some, is just as egregious as what they’re saying. By calling the president’s people ‘henchman,’ some could say, that’s just as insulting as what he’s saying about you,” she said.
“Our Constitution is at the mercy of people who have no allegiance to the Constitution of the United States,” Pelosi insisted. “They have repeatedly demonstrated that.”
Pelosi’s remarks seemed to be in relation to Trump’s comment last week that he would have to “wait and see” to determine if there would be a peaceful transfer of power after the election.
“Are you really worried about that?” asked King.
Pelosi said, “I’m hoping for the best, but prepared for the worst.”
Yeah, like Trump and state election officials across the country exposing your party’s election fraud?
We’re not even sure what Democrats are asking when they press Trump about a “peaceful transfer of power” in the first place. Are they worried that Trump is going to challenge Biden to a fist-fight on the inauguration stage? As far as we remember, it’s Biden – not Trump – who has publicly fantasized about taking Trump out back and giving him a beating. Funny how no one seems interested in asking Biden if he can retain his composure at the debate on Tuesday.
Alas, the bigger concern seems to be about whether or not Biden can even get through that debate. Hell, the man may indeed get frustrated enough to give Trump a shove. We’ve already seen him challenge random town hall attendees to push-up contests, so it wouldn’t be the biggest stretch. When Biden’s limited cognitive abilities fail, he falls back on his (imagined?) physical prowess. If we had to guess, it’s THIS that Pelosi wants to save him from – not Trump’s “fidelity” to the truth.
