Our Tax Dollars Funding Planned Parenthood’s $45 Million Election Campaign
Earlier this year, the Trump administration did conservative taxpayers an enormous favor by taking one of the biggest bites out of Planned Parenthood’s federal funding that any Republican has managed to do in years. By demanding that recipients of Title X monies separate themselves from the recommendation of or facilitation of abortion procedures, the administration forced Planned Parenthood to make a choice: Give up abortion…or lose out on millions in federal tax money. To no one’s surprise, Planned Parenthood chose to forgo the money.
Even so, they still get plenty of it. Though Title X money is off the table for now, Planned Parenthood still brings in an astounding $500 million a year from Medicaid reimbursements and other federal grants. The GOP-controlled Congress made a couple of weak attempts to strike this money off the books, but so far, it’s been no dice. And as long as Democrats have control of the House, we’re unlikely to see the federal government sever that funding entirely.
That makes it all the more infuriating when you read that Planned Parenthood is getting ready to spend $45 million on putting Democrats into office for the 2020 election.
“Planned Parenthood’s super PAC announced a $45 million electoral campaign on Wednesday to defeat President Trump and Republicans in key Senate races,” reports The Hill. “The investment will fund a ‘large-scale’ grassroots organization and canvass, digital, television, radio and mail programs.
“The stakes are higher than ever, and we’re coming out more powerfully than ever with the largest investment we’ve ever made,” a Planned Parenthood Votes representative told the site.
That’s all well and good, but how exactly do you have all of this money to spend on politics? Don’t you need every dollar so that you can provide affordable healthcare for struggling women? That’s the po’-mouth routine you recite when you’re sitting in front of Congress. So we’re not sure we understand how you have $45 million lying around to throw at Democrats.
But of course, we do understand all too well. Planned Parenthood is an economic powerhouse, and they have more than enough private money – thanks to abortion! – to keep their operations expanding. Which brings us back to the central question: Why are taxpayers on the hook for funding this organization if they have millions sitting around for political campaigns?
Any Republicans on Capitol Hill care to tackle this question?
