Pelosi and Schumer Say Trump is “Manufacturing a Crisis” in Pathetic Rebuttal
In a rebuttal they should have never been given airtime to deliver, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer pathetically tried to refute the unrefutable: That we have a big illegal immigration problem at the border. Telling the country that President Trump was “manufacturing a crisis” in his earlier address to the nation, the top Democrats on Capitol Hill insisted that the White House was trafficking in “misinformation and even malice.”
“The fact is,” Pelosi said, “on the very first day of this Congress, House Democrats passed Senate Republican’s legislation to reopen government and fund smart, effective, border security solutions, but the president has rejected these bipartisan bills which would reopen government over his obsession, forcing American taxpayers to waste billions of dollars on an expensive and ineffective wall. A wall he always promised Mexico would pay for. The fact is the president has chosen to hold hostage critical services for the health, safety, and well being of the American people. And withhold the paychecks of 800,000 innocent workers across the nation, many of them veterans.”
Well, no. That’s not a “fact.” A fact would be to say: It requires a two-party disagreement to reach an impasse. It takes both Republicans and Democrats to create a shutdown. So it is every bit as true to say that the Democrats are withholding those paychecks and holding those services hostage. The only thing they have to do to get those paychecks mailing again is to…come off a very small, very reasonable sum of money for a wall. That’s it. That’s all.
But why would they do that, when Pelosi believes the following: “The fact is, the women and children at the border are not a security threat. They are a humanitarian challenge, a challenge that President Trump’s own cruel and counterproductive policies have only deepened. And the fact is, President Trump must stop holding the American people hostage.”
Er, the American people are not in any kind of hostage situation, and it is the height of elitist arrogance to go on television and try and convince millions of Americans that this is about “women and children at the border.” This is straight out of the Obama refugee playbook, except worse. At least when Obama peddled that fiction, you couldn’t immediately go on YouTube and see for yourself the truth of the matter. Who the hell does Pelosi think she’s fooling?
Alas, the biggest lie of the night belonged to her partner.
“Make no mistake, Democrats and the president both want stronger border security,” said Schumer. “However, we sharply disagree with the president about the most effective way to do it.”
No, you do not want stronger border security. Not in the slightest. You know how we know that? Because Pelosi JUST SAID the people coming across the border “are not a security threat.”
We continue to have a bad feeling about how this shutdown is going to end, but if Democrats can’t do any better than this shameful nonsense, Trump might actually prevail after all.
