We can only imagine what the media’s reaction would be if President Trump or House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy labeled Democrats “domestic enemies” in an interview. Referencing the Oath of Enlistment to smear your political adversaries? What does that say, exactly? Is that a “dogwhistle” to militia groups and mercenaries? Is it some code to wake up terrorist sleeper cells? Is it, indeed, preparing Americans for the possibility of a military coup against the U.S. government?
We would have heard all of these scenarios played out in The New York Times, the Washington Post, MSNBC, CNN, and all the rest of the mainstream media. The conclusion would be obvious: We are on the precipice of American fascism, and we need to wake up before Trump kicks off the Fourth Reich in Washington, D.C.
But when House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says it? Ooh, she’s really playing hardball! What a strong, confident woman! *swoons*
It’s enough to make you sick.
“We take an oath to protect and defend the Constitution from all enemies, foreign and domestic,” Pelosi said on MSNBC on Monday. “And sadly, the domestic enemies to our voting system and honoring our Constitution are right at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue with their allies in the Congress of the United States. But again, let’s just get out there and mobilize, organize, and not let the President deter anybody from voting. And again, support the postal system which is election central.
“They’re doing everything they can, suppress the vote — with your actions, scare people, intimidate by saying law enforcement will be there, diminish the role of the postal system in all of this,” she continued. “It’s really actually shameful. Enemies of the state.”
Enemies. Of. The. State.
Of course, if you really want to know how seriously we should take Pelosi’s alarms about the postal system, just listen to what she said to kick off her rant: “The Russians were there and they are there now 24/7 trying to interfere in our election, but they’re not the only ones.”
Well, if the Postmaster General’s fixes and updates amount to as much of a threat to our election as the Russians did in 2016, we’d say there is very little call for concern. Unless you’re worried that the USPS will put out a few lame memes about Joe Biden on Facebook, we’re pretty sure everything will be okay.
We should probably be far more concerned with a Democratic Party that’s doing everything they can to convince Americans that our elections will be tampered with, suppressive, and fraudulent. If they’re getting this hysterical, they must not have much confidence in those polls showing Biden ahead.
Hopefully, their fears in that respect are well-placed.
