Well isn’t this something. When the Pentagon tries to come up with some money to start building the wall, Democrats in Congress throw a tantrum and threaten to shut off their discretionary spending valve. But when they announce that they’re getting ready to spend $7.4 million on a mission to the border that will be geared towards caring and feeding bogus asylum seekers? Oh, that’s fine. Then you don’t hear a peep about it. How remarkable.
In an announcement on Monday, the Department of Defense said they would be sending 320 additional troops to the southern border to provide material assistance to the Border Patrol and ICE. Not to help enforce U.S. immigration law, mind you, because Democrats have seen to it that we can’t really do that kind of thing anymore. No, they are going to simply help take care of the hordes of illegal aliens coming across our border on a daily basis.
“DoD personnel will assist in driving high-capacity CBP vehicles to transport migrants; providing administrative support, including providing heating, meal distribution and monitoring the welfare of individuals in CBP custody; and attorney support to ICE,” the agency announced.
“DoD personnel will not perform any law enforcement functions,” they continued. “In any situation that requires DoD personnel to be in proximity to migrants, DHS law enforcement personnel will be present to conduct all custodial and law enforcement functions, and provide force protection of military personnel.”
So yeah, our nation’s fighting force is heading to the border to act as chauffeurs and caterers. On behalf of people who should never have been allowed to set foot on our soil.
President Trump took action this week to tighten up our asylum policies, but we’re done getting our hopes up. The fact of the matter is that there’s only so much he can do. Every time he tries to take the slightest step towards strengthening our borders, the left hits back with everything they’ve got. Whether it’s Democrats on Capitol Hill or the liberals sitting on federal benches around the country, it’s a no-win situation. Until and unless there is a massive outpouring of demand from the American people, nothing’s going to change. Our immigration crisis is going to keep getting worse and worse, our expenditures more and more outrageous.
Hopefully, this whole issue will bite Democrats hard in the next election, but we’ll see. Voters seem to have a funny way of burying their heads in the sand when it comes to this crisis.
